Comments Thread For: Photo: Marroquin Badly Injures Ankle During Diaz Loss

Featherweight contender Roberto Marroquin (23-3, 16KOs) tore ligaments around his right ankle in the first round of last Friday's shocking ten round split decision loss to Daniel Diaz (20-5) at the WinStar Casino in Oklahoma. Marroquin injured the ankle after suffering two knockdowns in the first. He also injured his left hand along the way, but the ankle made him a stationary target for Diaz.

The first couple of times you get an ankle sprain like that it will go back to normal but starting with the third time it will never heal completely.

Damnit man. Marroquin needs to get it together. Ugh... Maybe I'll give him a pass for this loss and props to him for continuing the fight.

When Marroquin went down the second time and hobbled back up, I thought it was over. Ala Mugabi-Jacquot or Grant-Hearns.
Praise for surviving the rounds with the injury but getting caught in the first place by those right hands that put him down shows us he has no chance of going much further in the game.
Whatever he is doing is not working so it is time either to rethink his career or go back and find a trainer or the motivation to do what it takes to beat guys the level of a Daniel Diaz.
