it's a toss-up between pernell and mayweather. but my vote goes to mayweather since pete has been on the deck numerous times (rafael williams, r. mayweather, hurtado, trinidad)

The thing is people are using a prime Whitaker, while many of you are thinking a 2009-present Floyd, who's still good but not in his peak.

Mayweather in his peak was even better defensively.

          BIG DIFFERENCE.

Anyone with eyes will tell you Pea's defense is more natural and advanced.

Guys like Pernell/Benitez proved their defense against ATG fighters. Floyd's proving it against good fighters.
so you are telling me that Floyd always holds on the inside or doesnt know how to defend himself on the inside? Seriously. Dude is a great inside fighter both ways. He's great in the pocket. Floyd can make you miss like those guys did but he also can catch, block, and roll shots.

Floyd can use the shoulder roll, the high guard, slip, etc.... He's more versatile

It's Mayweather by a landslide. The is a reason he got the nickname "pretty boy".

No, my point is you guys always overstate his inside defense, when really he's a gloves and body defender. Watch him on the inside, and please tell me that's as impressive as being able to actually go toe to toe, and not get hit.

Eh, you're the biggest nut hugger on this board, you think anything Floyd does is the most versatile in the game. Pernell, and it's pretty much universally recognized among boxing heads.

Defense is synonymous with Pernell and Pep.

Floyd may have the best D in history because he can switch styles more than any other guy. Pea's D is the same every time. Floyd uses different defenses from fight to fight or even in-fight.

On top of that Pea is a Southpaw. People always overlook that when they talk about stuff like this or fighters period. Everything is just much easier for a Southpaw. Pea wouldve definitely got hit more if he were orthodox and Floyd would be nearly unhittable if he were a Southpaw
                This right here.

The key is Floyd's versatility. Also on top of that, his transition from Defense to offense is better.

Here's a good measuring stick. Floyd vs. Castillo/ODLHYA.
                  Sweet Pea vs. Chaves Sr.

                  Floyd vs. Judah
                  Sweet Pea vs prime ODHLYA.

                  It's not even close.

You guys are brain dead if you think Floyd's more verastyle.

Transition from offense to defense hands down goes to Pernell.

The man stayed in the pocket with you, and made you miss like no other. When he's on the outside, it's slip and rip.

More versatyle? How so? Pernell is just as versatile as Floyd, and better at most aspects.
