How can Ring Magazine 154 belt be on the line?

Canelo is the Ring Magazine 154 pound champ. How can this "belt" be on the line when he is going to be fighting the Catchweight King at 152?

I understand that Ring is owned by De La Hoya and friends, but the magazine is supposed to have editorial independence. The Ring championship should not be on the line because this fight is not being contested at Light Middleweight.

The corrupt alphabet soup organizations allowing championship fights at catchweights is one thing, but the Ring rankings are supposed to be free of this kind of corruption and manipulation.

Have any boxing journalists looked into this yet? I remember reading someone like Schaefer claiming the Ring title would be on the line. Has Ring Magazine officially commented???

148-154 is junior middleweight. Its completely legit since this is a JMW fight. 154 is simply the maximum weight.

Because GBP know Canelo is going to ignore the CW and pay the fine to come in at 154.

Not true. Junior Middleweight means you can weigh a maximum of 154. It does not mean you must weigh 148-154. It means you can weigh anything UP TO 154. You can weigh 146. You can weigh 140. You can weigh anything UP TO 154. That's the definition of the Junior Middleweight weight class.

This fight is being contested at a maximum weight of 152. This is not a Jnr. MW bout.

I guess we need to re-open the thread since a completely incorrect definition of the LMW weight class was given.

Maybe some other people will understand the question.

the same way all the other belts are on the line. the orgs allow catchweights. always have probably always will. i dont agree with it, but seriously its just the crappy ring belt anyways. whats worse imo is the lineal title is pretty much up for grabs as well. not sure how i feel about that. ill wait to see how canelo looks at the weigh in.

                  This.

If the alphabet soup brands want to sanction the fight for their version of the world title then fair enough, but I don't think it should be for the lineal title.

                    True that, it's 147.0000000000000000001 to 154
