Nobody can ever dispute his great skills unless they are an idiot, but he has a roy jones type resume not an ali type resume
I was on esb the other day and they were asking about when you got into boxing and most of them talked about fights that recently happened in the last 5 years. They look back at Floyd's run and think it was nothing but if you were around at the time then you would know that they were big time fights. He cleared out that division and they were all good fighters.
Floyd's problem is he sold out for the Oscar fight. He went all in. You cant blame him because thats what most guys wouldve done but he moved up in weight very quickly just to chase that big money/big fame fight. If Oscar was a LW then I bet Floyd wouldve taken way longer to move up to the higher weights.
He's a smaller guy. He was only coming into the ring at 138 for LW fights and 143 for SLW fights. He couldve stayed at LW for a long time. Who wouldve beat him? All those guys probably wouldve came to him, like EM, MAB, JMM, etc....
None of them wouldve beat him. Then everyone wouldve been sweating his resume when in reality he wouldve had a harder time winning fights going up in weight due to his size.
Even his upper divison run is underrated. Hatton was undefeated and recently dominated the legend in Tszyu. Mosley had just decapitated the so called baddest man in boxing. Everyone said Floyd was scared of him. Then Floyd signs the fight and everyone immediatly switches. Same thing they are doing now with Canelo. Everyone said Floyd would duck but as soon as he signs, now all these same people are saying he's young and it will be an easy win.
There are a million great fights at 140-147. If any of these guys fight eachother then everyone is excited to see it, including Pac. However, if Floyd fights them then its a garbage fight and a cherry pick. He's penalyzed for being too good. Its only a faird fight if he's in his 5th division and giving away 20 pounds to a guy in his 1st divison. Thats the only fights he's allowed to take and if he doesnt then he's a coward

So who could Floyd have fought to give him a place with Ali? I'll tell you no one! Every fighter has a name a two that they could have faced and didn't. That includes the all time p4p SRR. Floyd fought Genaro Hernandez in only his 17th fight. Trust me before Floyd started the bad boy role his was one of the most avoided fighters. The Gatti fight got him to Oscar via Zab. Oscar wouldn't fight him due to high risk low reward. Arum said Cotto was too green. At 140 Floyd toast him. At 147 it would have been a great fight. Again Arum..Hatton kept his mouth closed after the Gatti fight and when you look at his face when he called Floyd out after Castillo it looked like he knew what was coming. Anyway his résumé isn't great but who really could have made it better? No one...

I stopped reading at resume doesn't matter... Yes resume means everything. He's over rated because he's an atg without an atg on his résumé actually not even a hof'er in his prime. I just read the above post and yes I would like to comment. At 140 specifically he clearly avoided a prime kyosta tszyu ( IMO atg material), ducked cotto for at least a year and a half (don't blame that on arum floyd said he wouldn't fight cause under arums stable), Avoided Shane mosley until he was 38..., oh yeah and definately low ball pacman who honestly may have made him a top ten atg depending on how the fight went. Retired when the welter weight Division was the hottest, and then came back to fight Ortiz lol.... He has a weak résumé because he chose to have a weak résumé no need to make excuses he stopped taking challenges after Castillo.Last edited by Flash13; 06-17-2013, 09:01 PM.
