If I was to guess I'd say it has something to do with the monetary split, but I simply don't know. I do know that Schaefer does has a pretty good track record making the fights he says are in the works as of late and that Matthysse/Garcia makes the most sense at the moment for pretty much everyone involved, from a business standpoint. Like Schaefer said, the fight is 90% percent likely and now we hear this from Rafael. I don't think we have anything to worry about really.

As much as this fight is in demand right now, I think not getting it done would piss a lot of people off and would be a real shame. It'd also turn a lot of people against Garcia. I can already see the hundreds of threads calling Garcia a duck and a *****.

Plus, what is there to gain by letting this fight "marinate"? The way it looks right now the marinade would be those 2 guys sitting around waiting for the outcomes of all the other fights at and around 140.

True that the weight would be a major stumbling block as far as a Maidana/Matty fight. I didn't even think about that. Aren't they friends as well? Sounds like a troll by Lewkowicz. Anyway, it looks like Maidana is fighting the winner of Broner/Malignaggi, and from what we keep hearing it looks like Judah very well may have a fight with Mike Alvarado on the horizon. I just don't think there's anywhere else to go for Matty and Garcia except the fight with eachother. Pretty damn sure it happens next. And if by some freak occurrence Lewkowicz's proposed Sept. 7th card ends up happening, it'd be an alright card. A lot of controversy surrounding it, and not much of a reason for Garcia to fight Judah again(besides the fact that their fight was pretty entertaining), but I'm sure a lot of people would tune in for it. Wouldn't be one of my top choices for Sept. 7th personally, but far from the worst card that could be made.
All of this I agree with, but Schaefer is not the most trust worthy dude on the matter. Of course he is going to claim the fight is close to 90% done, in fact, why even bring up the possibility it won't be done? Its the mando, and everyone wants it, its the natural fight, it should've been 110% a month ago.

We already know for a fact Schaefer wanted to make Matths Maidana, because a reporter asked Schaefer about Matths Garia a little after Garcia Khan, and Schaefer said he is more excited about the possibility of Matths Maidana.

GB is playing the game like they always do, and they've decided they want to protect Garcia from Matths, and its precipitated by Garcia himself not wanting to fight Matths. The thing is, GB and Garcia may not have a choice if Matths forces the issue. I don't know, its becoming very very late for a Sept fight. Promotional time is shrinking.

Yeah, I agree being under 3 months out isn't good. I guess all we can really do, as fans of the sport, is see what happens by "the end of the week".

Yeah, that doesn't get you a Mayweather fight. Beating Berto gets you a Mayweather fight.

By the way, I've missed it, but someone has to have the Danny Garcia reaction to Matthysee's destruction of Peterson in a .GIF somewhere...right? Please? I think that can close this thread until the fight is signed.

Big announcement: "Garcia decides to move up to 147, being mentioned as possible Floyd Mayweather opponent!!!"

Showtime pushes hard for Maidana-Matthysse instead. Fight gets dubbed

With what is going on right now, this is very possible. Garcia "jumps to 147" (read: ducks Matthysee) and challenges Victor Ortiz or Robert Guerrero (much more winnable fights for him, IMO), while Matthysee fights Maidana. Golden Boy hopes Garcia wins to challenge Floyd in May 2014 (barring Canelo rematch), and Matthysee bests Maidana and sets up a possible PPV fight against Broner. The winner of that fight can challenge Floyd in September 2014, which would be very fun.

Hell No. To me those are more dangerous fights than Matthysee. Especially Ghost. They are Southpaws, big, and he's never fought at WW. I think he'd rather face Lucas then that
