Old fighters were better. Its quite simple, in 1920, there was more boxers in NY than there are active boxers today. Go back, do some study, youll find that these men from back in the day was a lot harder than the average star of today. The durable dane going 42 rounds, losing the first 10 badly, then taking turning it upside down By winning the next 30 rounds, and getting ko'ed in the 42th. Look a sugar ray, fighting over 200 times during his career.

Boxing is not at its best, even though Floyd probanly beats a lot of the atg.

Yes, there were some all-time greats, but people give boxers of that era too much credit in my opinion.....

Take for instance a guy like Jack Dempsey....there's no way anyone can convince me that a guy like Wladimir Klitschko wouldn't knock him unconscious....he was a light heavyweight....the fact that he was considered an all time great goes to show that the competition either wasn't very deep or he was just that good for his time...

There were a lot of part-time fighters who were considered good or great during those times as well....

We have guys now days who are fully dedicated modern marvels from an athletic standpoint...

I would match and pick many modern day fighters against the old school fighters and I think some of the modern day guys would do their thing....

People tend to follow what media people and writers say and take it as the gospel...

I can speak for myself in that I've seen the modern day fighters and I wasn't there during the early 1900's, so I can't legitimately say that a fighter back then would destroy a fighter from this era.....
ATG from the past, if born today would most likely still be great. They would have learnt from the guys before and with modern technology, would have been great.

Today's heavyweights should be able to beat them due to weight. Heavyweights of 50 years ago+ are small even for cruiserweight today.

Those guys weren't the athletes like we see today but I'd argue that they were tougher.
not even that. aside from a few elite fighters, there are very few current fighters that are these athletic supermen that people are assuming them to be in comparison. and from what I've read of joe gans, he's basically the floyd mayweather of his era.

Joe Gans, lightweight champion of the world from 1902-1908 (Odd, 45), whose talent, polished professional style, and punching power earned him the magnificent title of “The Old Master”, was as dominate a fighter as any who ever donned gloves. Gans was a defensive master as well as a devastating puncher. He attacked vital points with pinpoint accuracy and threw every punch perfectly, in combinations and with bewildering speed. He was a master at counter punching, of the now lost art of feinting, and at the neglected art of body punching. He was a complete fighter who could be champion in any age.
jim jeffries was a super athlete as well.

Jeffries had a lot more than just a modern heavyweights size and great strength going for him; he was also an outstanding natural athlete. John Durant, wrote in The Heavyweight Champions, “He was surprisingly fast and agile. He could run 100 yards in 11 seconds, and high jump 5 feet, 10 inches.” That is absolutely remarkable for a man of his size. Consider that Jesse Owens ran the 100-yard dash in 9.4 seconds a worlds record in 1936 (nowadays they run 100 meters). That a heavyweight boxer, not a track and field athlete, can accomplish such feats is the mark of an excellent athletic talent.

Eyewitness referee Billy Roche concurred saying Jeffries had the "acrobatic springiness of a circus tumbler in his legs. He was no lumbering ox, anchored to one spot, but a natural athlete."

Fighting in the 1920s I think Dempsey would've murdered Wlad. The first thing jack would've done in a clinch would be to headbutt Wlad as hard as he could in the mouth, he would've followed that up with a thumb to the eye and a punch to the balls. If Wlad could survive the sheer brutality maybe he could outbox Dempsey.

Fighting in the 2000s with the current rules it would be a walkover for Wlad I'd say KO2 or a DQ1 win.

i dont think time period matters that much, more about the individual boxer. theres plently of all types of fighters styles through the years with different physical attributties but i think overall the higher number of people boxing in the past makes me think they should be slightly better naturally (tougher/reactions/stronger/faster), but mordern fighters have got infinite videos to learn from, protein shakes, plyometrics, sport science and mordern training techniques. from what iv seen sugar ray robinson would demolish any fighter in his weight today, but doesnt mean all old guys win because there old.

Amir Khan would of starched both SRR and Duran in a round. Of that, i have no doubt.

                      No.

I will say that Carlos Monzon beats every guy at 160 in the world today with ease.
