I wouldn't be surprised if this was true, Showtime spent a lot of money marketing a fight with a relatively unknown Guerrero and his insane father. Guerrero's a good fighter however, there wasn't a hunger amongst boxing fans to see this fight, what really brings in the cash are the casual fans, the people that float around the periphery of the game hoping for a show.

Floyd by himself can draw in fans, but what fans want to see is Floyd in a struggle or in with someone that can in "theory" present a challenge. His last PPV didn't do well, it may have done over a million but that wasn't enough to satisfy all of the interests involved. Floyd is going to have to take on a lot of "tough" challenges to make his contract mutually beneficial, because right now the contract is on course to satisfy one guy, Mayweather.

    Ugh.....

It's ShowTime fault, more like we can thank Floyd for trying to run away from Canelo.

They have about 1.5 to 2 years to recoup on lost revenue and there is no guarantee that he even fulfills the 6 fight contract maximum. He could quit now if he wanted to based on my limited knowledge of his contract with Showtime. Sony has a lot o R&D money tied up in developing the PS3 and they also have an established baseline for a solid profit model based on the previous generation of PS2 and original PS1 gaming system.

Showtime is flat out taking a gamble on Floyd. Completely different market with its own specific set of governing factors. There is little TIME available with respect to the Mayweather-Showtime contract where as Sony has substantiated their entire business model on the idea of prolonged sales over an extended period of TIME.
so you think you understand showtimes finances better than showtime?their is nothing but a forbes article to suggest they lost this money.showtime has been in business a long time.they know what they can afford.you are doin a lot of math for no reason.assuming floyd did lose 12,who is to say every fight after that loses 12 except the canelo fight.thats plain silly

its a safe bet his contract is contingent on his actual fights.nobody knows his actual contract except him and showtime so their is no point to speculate on it

their profit model meant nothing as the ps3 was extremely expensive to make, unlike ps1 and 2.the system was 600 at launch and still sold at a loss.sony had to take that on the chin.which is why for ps4 they are producing a much cheaper system and will have a much lower launch price

all business is gambles.xbox and nintendo are taking huge gambles with their next gen games while sony chose to play it safe.you win some, you lose some in business.the point was though that 12 mil is pennies to major corp's

that cant be true since Floyd made more then the minimum 32M so this fight has to have made a profit

            is mayweather showtimes only product?

their game division still bled 100 million annually on ps3 for 5 years.the point is that 12 mil is absolutely nothing for major companies

this explains why floyd decided to make canelo his next opponent. maybe this showtime deal isnt as bad as some anticipated and they might coerce floyd into taking on better opponents.

Dude their boxing budget for last year was 28m. 12m is 43%, that's ridiculous. HBO's was just a few mil more, so if SHO invested those 12 into their boxing programming, they would have dwarfed HBO. Remember when HBO's budget was all messed up when they committed like an extra 3m for Bradley and Devon's next fight?
