I don't understand how Khan survived against Maidana.

[QUOTE=Augustane;13459368, Lopez ate shots from Alvarez who was 2 weight classes bigger, for 5 rounds. He was taken out by Maidana.[/QUOTE]

it's cause the ginger only hits as hard as Cherrypicker... that's what Mosley said

What happened to Khan's chin from his Maidana fight? Is it really as bad as we think or what?
Yes, Khan's chin is still bad...

Khan's too big for 140 now, he's basically weight-drained. When he first moved up from 135 (because of being weight-drained) it suited him because his physique was balanced out better but now he's outgrown the division so he's unbalanced again.. thats why he needs to move up to 147.

Against Diaz the knockdown was more of a balance thing, but we saw how just the extra 3 pounds Khan was able to weather the storm and beat Diaz fair and square. At 147 Khan should be able to absorb punishment much easier (like he did against Maidana) but only if he works on building up the legs more than the body. If he focuses the extra weight on building up the body then he'll still have low punch resistance.

Khan's chin is really really underrated on here, though he has a bad chin. People make out that a single right hand will knock him out. It might knock him down, maybe like Diaz, but he won't be knocked out.

The only punches he has been stopped with, are huge punches that would knock most people out. Even then, he has gotten up and I think it really is an issue of recuperation from massive shots, where most people wouldn't have even gotten up.

I hate to bring Mayweather into a seemingly irrelevant thread, but I really want to see Khan/Mayweather - just to see how Mayweather deals with Khan's speed. Khan will probably lose, but I disagree with the people who say oh Mayweather will easily knock Khan out. Mayweather isn't a one punch knockout machine at all, and whilst his lead straight hand may knock Khan down, I fail to see how he can generate a punch like Garcia/Prescott to KO him easily.

I really dislike Khan too, but the chin thing is out of control lol.

Maidana is limited period, you can make excuses for him losing to Khan by blaming everything from referee etc fact was Maidana was only looking for one KO punch all night and by the time he found it the fight was almost over. Even then he land more than one of his KO punch, he land behind the head and rabbit punch before the referee interfere and he still couldn't do the job. Moreover blaming the referee his just lame.

            ...

i think khan does have a better chin then he is given credit for but not a granite chin of course, he was at his peak in that fight n he said 140 was his natural weight back then, the condition he was in, he could see maidana's slow punches and also his will to prove he has a chin.... but now his new style does not suit him n his chin prob getting worse due to the punishment he took over the last couple of fights

I think the biggest difference between Khan's chin against Maidana vs. Garcia was his training. I remember watching an interview with Alex Ariza who said that they had done special preparation on Khan's legs to withstand knock downs and that it improved the tolerance in his chin. So, he was able to survive powerful shots that would normally KO or extremely hurt a fighter.

For the Garcia fight he was having problems with Ariza (as was Roach) and he was essentially fired from the camp. This might just be a correlation, but I wouldn't be surprised that his removal of Ariza from his training camp was the reason his resistance to punches severely decreased. Furthermore, we saw what happened when Manny stopped following the Ariza gameplan/exercises in the 4th Marquez fight. Even though Ariza is intrusive and annoying, I think he definitely helped both fighters come into fights in excellent physical shape and with the strength to take punches better.

The difference is Maidana. Do not act like the Maidana that lost to Khan is the same Maidana that just ended karass and lopez. Maidana'a conditioning was poor for the fight and the ref did negate any roughhouse tactics, but the primary factor was Maidana himself. He was out of shape and unfocused for that fight. Same for Devon. Now he's sharper, and in much better shape for the fights. He's in his functional prime as of now.

Oh and in a rematch, this Maidana slaughters either version of Khan.

The only reason Maidana's condition was poor was because Khan made him **** his pants with that left hook to the body in the first round

LOL at the sudden love for Maidana.

Pretty sure when I logged in yesterday, I saw comments such as "He's a bum".

Khan is a lot better than HATERS wanna give him credit for, and he is a lot tougher than people wanna give him credit for. He hurt Maidana early and he outboxed him. Maidana came on strong but Khan is tough and survived.
