He existed, and was a wrecking machine at WW. What did Floyd do at 135, besides beat Corrales and Castillo? Do we still not recognize his skills and physical greatness at that weight?
Why do I always think he fought him at 135? My bad on that.
I know what the question was. I was just making an observation that the WW list that one of the posters listed was insane based off name value. Especially considering that they made their names at WW, besides a certain few, but even they were major players at WW.
Since a lot of greats usually become champions in multiple divisions, it can blur the lines in my mind. LW to WW, WW to MW and so on. But just off the top of my head, look at some of the names that have fought at WW.
Robinson
Armstrong
Duran
Leonard
Hearns
Whitaker
Most of those guys fought at LW too. Add in a few more and you have a very brief list like:
Robinson
Armstrong
Joe Gans
Benny Leonard
Roberto Duran
Whitaker
JC Chavez
Carlos Ortiz
Mayweather Jr
Canzoneri
Ike Williams
Barney Ross
Jose Napoles
Ken Buchanan
Ismael Laguna
Nicolino Locche
Jimmy McLarnin
Ok let me clarify this... I wasn't directing my post at anyone! I was just clarifying TS's question. Lol

I know, man.
Guess I didn't comprehend the thread title correctly.
But that's why I prefaced my list with what I said. Many of the widely regarded ATG's have won titles in multiple weight divisions, so maybe some fighters weren't as effective, or had as an spectacular record at a division they fought in the later parts of their career's.
the holy trinity of ross canzoneri and mclarnin plus duran, benny leonard, whitaker, ike williams and joe gans wipes out anything welter has to offer. those guys are all legit top 30 atgs there.
whatd hearns even do at welterweight besides beat a plodding cuevas?
While Cuevas might have been a plodder, he is also considered one of the biggest punchers ever in the weight class.
He also gave SRL absolute hell at 147.
Are you implying Hearns couldn't give just about anybody at 147 a tough time?
