Canelo has the shorter reach as well.
With that said...Floyd can control the distance and make it hard for Canelo's jab to land. By using his own jab. Also by stiff arming Canelo and shooting that hard right hand up the middle .
There is no fighter out there(in Floyds weight class) with the right style along with the right size to beat Floyd unless they catch him with a lucky shot that ko's him.
A tall guy with speed, boxing ability, a great jab and with great power in his right hand. A guy like Tommy Hearns would have a better chance.

If Alvarez was to employ a jab consistently he can possibly cause Floyd to open his cagey defense, that's IF Floyd decides to fight flat footed which he seems to do every time he steps up to the 154 division. Using the Jab can also make Mayweather play more offensively which can keep him out of controlling the fight and unbalanced, like what Cotto showed in the middle rounds.
Alvarez can only lose this fight if he tries just body shots and don't keep Mayweather on a tab with a consistent jabLast edited by Ichee; 06-02-2013, 03:52 PM.

Going to Floyd's body is a must, but you have to get there first, and that isn't easy. Floyd protects the head and body, and he will bulk up a bit for this fight. Canelo imo has a punchers chance. Either that, or he wil have to hope that Floyd turns old.

Yeah, I know, Trout isn't Floydie... so what? I'm talking about a fighter who improves a lot with each fight lately, and one who is still young, who is fast, tough, strong, patient, relentless. He just needs to improve his stamina at this point. Whether he wins or not isn't as important to me as the challenge he puts forth. And Floydie will definitely know he's been in a fight when it's over, win or lose. Canelo is one of the best opponents Floydie has faced so far.

Easier said that done but we will see. All I know is one thing, no matter what strategy Canelo employs, if he fights a minute out of each round like he did with Trout he will lose. Canelo is a good puncher but people continually don't understand that Floyd can take a shot and has a chin, people think because of his style he does not. Floyd has been hurt twice in his career, both from huge shots from great punchers. Cotto never hurt Floyd whatsoever and landed more shots on him than most fighters. Floyd also hits harder than people give him credit for, it is just that he is very economical. He could have stopped JMM, Cotto, Guerrero had he stepped on the gas and really opened up. I do not think he is going to stop Canelo at all, maybe not even hurt him, but he will check him enough to make him think twice about wading in. There is a reason fighters in the past don't just continually jump in to wage war, because he counters with hard precision shots, especially his great uppercuts. As I said before this will be tough fight for Floyd def and its possible his 0 may go but Canelo better have the perfect plan and as Floyd said, he better bring his A-GAME.

I don't think you can "attack" Floyd to the body. That makes his counterpunching ability that much better. I think you have to counter Floyd to the body. Guerrero managed to land some good counter lefts under Floyd's right, especially when Floyd would loop the righthand. If Canelo had landed those punches, it could have been troublesome for Floyd.

Actually that would be a solid strategy, the only problem is keeping Mayweather in front of him and cutting the ring off and cornering him to land to the body, that is where Canelo will have problems because he is flat footed and not overly fast
Also body attacks leaves you open for all of his counters! You have to be UNPREDICTABLE against Mayweather and you also should have multiple gameplans not just one and you have to be VERSATILE! You have to be able to box from a distance also be able to fight inside and also know how to GET INSIDE
It is fighters who have the tools to beat Mayweather but one is fight at 168 (Andre Ward) and the other is fighting at 122 (Rigondeaux) these to me are the only fighters in boxing today who truly possess the skills to beat Mayweather, the rest of the fighters are only hoping that Mayweather gets Older and Slower overnight and they can catch him at the right timeLast edited by sicko; 06-02-2013, 05:18 PM.

When September 14th comes around, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Canelo is not going to target the head of Mayweather and chase a knockout that never comes by trying to land a shot to the chin. Instead the 22-year-old boxer will target the body to break Mayweather down, and then place his shots upstairs.
