Saul could have told Floyd 154 or nothing and went on to build his legacy without him. So you are not correct.
cotto himself offered 145 when roach wanted 143. he even got his dr to say that cotto can only safely go down to 145 for the fight. cotto bit himself in the ass by saying that he wont go lower than 145.

Floyd's explination for the catchweight on a competing site is that Canelo originally offered to fight him at 150lbs after the Cintron fight a couple years ago, so that's the deal they took to Ginger. Ginger countered with 154, so they agreed to meet in the middle. Does the catchweight make Floyd look like a bit of a hypocrite? Sure. But at day's end, as long as Canelo isn't restricted on his rehydration, 2lbs isn't gonna make that much difference. Canelo will come in north of 170lbs, and enjoy at least a 20lb weight advantage over Floyd on fight night.

WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs) is willing to drop a few pounds to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs). Mayweather is the World Boxing Council's champion at 147-pounds. Alvarez has no problem facing Mayweather at a catch-weight of 150-pounds.

i dont think you're getting it. yes canelo will be over 154 but the extra work and hassle to lose those last 2 pounds will no doubt affect him and his body. he might only be able to gain 5 pounds after because he doesnt know how his body will react. a few years ago he had a fight at 150 and can only make 153 remember? there is no doubt that this will affect him and given that he has stamina issues its even worse

You people are funny. This "outrage" over the catchweight is nothing more than a built-in excuse for when the inevitable happens, and Canelo loses. First, it was "Floyd is ducking Canelo." And much like Pac, Floyd's critics would much rather ***** about ducking these guys because they know it is very unlikely either can beat him in an actual boxing match. Just stop people. This is the biggest fight that can currently be made in the sport. As we all well know, there are no guarantees on the best fighting the best. Floyd-Pac never happen. The RJ-B-Hop rematch didn't happen when it would have mattered. Let's just be happy we have our big fight.

As for Floyd condradicting himself, who cares, he's done it before. Remember the phrase, "belts don't do nothing but collect dust?" Floyd screamed that the entire Mosley promotion. I have a couple theories on why. Maybe he was having financial troubles and didn't wanna fork over 3% of his purse to the WBA (the most likely reason). Or maybe Mosley was an established enough name that the belt wasn't gonna be needed to help sell the fight. Either way, it was a hypocritical statement because Floyd has happily forked over the sanctioning fees in all of his fights following Mosley. Probably because the belts give credibility to lesser known guys like Ortiz, Guerrero, and to an extent Canelo. So please, let's not act like its the end of the world when a fighter contradicts himself. Hell, Ginger offered to fight Floyd at 150 only to have it change. Fighters do it all the time.

What y'all don't understand is he came to Money with the catchweight. Money didn't care, he wanted the catchweight.

No one cares about the catchweight. It's just extremely funny that Mayweather wanted one after so many years of insulting Pacquiao over them, and even funnier how the fans who did it worse are suddenly okay with catchweights.

How can we not call these people out on their bull****? It's irresistible.

The **** people are saying now is so awesome, after thousands and thousands of posts ripping Pacquiao.

This is awesome. I hope Alvarez comes in at 154 so they talk about how unprofessional not weighing in at the agreed upon weight is.

More like 13 lbs heavier. Plus Mayweather was 29 (2006)! and Baldomir was much slower than Alvarez.

You have to wait and see how the fight plays out before casting judgement buddy. Let's take a couple fights where guys had to drop weight as examples. Pac-DLH, Pac-Cotto, Pac-Margarito, and Ward-Dawson. IMO, Pac and Ward defeated those opponents in a manner in which demonstrated to me that at any weight, they would have been way too much for those guys. Pac's speed and combination punching is what killed DLH, Cotto, and Margarito. Those guys not having to cut a couple lbs in training wasn't gonna change that. Ward's skill level, combined with his roughhouse tactics on the inside is what was Dawson's undoing. Dawson's game is skill and speed. He was outgunned from a skill standpoint against Ward. That wouldn't have been any different in a light heavyweight fight. The rough stuff on the inside, Dawson would be out gunned at light heavy too because he's not comfortable inside and never will be. And regardless of weight, he's skill level will never allow him to keep Ward off him.

So when it comes to Floyd-Canelo, let's see how it plays out. If Floyd eeks out a close, somewhat controversal win and it is evident it only happen becuase he took the championship rounds when Canelo was obviously dead tired. Yeah, you'll have an arguement that the catchweight got Floyd over. Even though it will be argued that Canelo has had stamina issues in with or without catchweights. But if Floyd comes out and dominates Canelo from the word GO. And its obvious that Canelo, from a class and skill standpoint isn't on Floyd's level. The catchweight excuse will turn into nothing more than mindless babble from Floyd's haters.

People keep saying Floyd has fought at 54 several times but the truth is Floyd has fought for the 54 division title but has "never" weighted in at 54. His heaviest weight in for a54 title was 150lbs. He's been at a disadvantage for all his 54 fights. I guess people seem to forget those little details. Lol
