As I stated, his style works for him but I can see why many boxing fans are turned off by it. There are plenty of opportunities for him to unleash a 3-4 punch combo rather than just throwing 1 punch but he's satisfied with just touching you in order to rack up points and cruise to non risk taking decision.

Granted his style works for him but this is why he gets criticized and called "boring". He's like the Tim Duncan of boxing.
so everyone is just going to totally discount that Floyd on fight night weighs the same thing that 140 pounders weigh and even some LW's while Canelo is huge? You guys think that doesnt matter when it comes to overcommiting or dominating? He's not going to run up on Canelo like he would someone who is the same size as him.

As for dominating, what if Floyd fights triple G the next fight and the fight goes the same exact way? You wouldnt call that dominant? What if he fights Wlad after that and teh fight goes the same exact way? You wouldnt call that domiant. At some point the size of your opponent and how competitive you thought they would be before hand matters.

Basically, if Canelo was Gatti's size then he wouldve maybe got Gatti'd but he's not going to Gatting any Jr. MW. That still doesnt mean its not dominant. If he beats Lara, Trout, or Sergio the same way then everyone will consider that dominant because of him winning 9 plus rounds and the other advantages those guys have over him

      • Floyd is smaller than Crawford and Figueroa who fight at lightweight asking the guy to KO Canelo is insanity, I doubt Thurman, Manny or Lucas would KO Canelo.

Add in the fact that he has glass hands, there's no reason he should risk going after the KO unless it comes.

Yes , Canelo didn't win a single round , but Floyd let a few go because he coasted .

It was a very dominate performance from a boxing perspective , you could easily describe the fight as a whitewash in general conversation , simply because Canelo was no threat to anything other a viewer's anticipation something big " might " happen , this was an ownage , just the same like a racehorse that's cruising down the back straight , and still wins with its head pulled to its chest .

Excellent post, check how many lightweights are 5'8 and rehydrate to 150, Floyd is a little guy fighting giants.

              • I agree. I watched it tonight as well and it was more competitive watching sober.

Floyd clearly won but it wasn't as one sided as everyone claims

Are you saying that if your opponent is significantly bigger than you that you shouldnt commit to trying to hurt or take him out despite the fact that you have the ability to do so? Maybe Floyd doesnt posses raw KO power but he sure as hell has the accuracy and speed to completely overwhelm his opponents and go for a stoppage. Even Calslappy had the tendency to go for the kill despite the fact that he couldnt even throw a proper punch. Instead he overwhelmed his opponents with multiple slaps/punches.
