Hey goober..........................what do you think holds you up when you get hit on the chin, jaw, temple????? Its your legs genius!!!! No road work, no stamina, no stamina no resistance or no way to recover!! ALL fighters do road work!!! Ray.
Unless you're Amir Khan... then there's no hope for you.
He looked flabby, just like Arreola, another guy who doesn't like to run. You can have good stamina and be fat. You are going to have a hard time getting ripped with out some sort of distance running, swimming a few laps in the pool ain't gonna cut it.
nah brother, thats not cos of lack of running, thats cos of poor diet

Maybe, maybe not though. Some people just have a slower metabolism than others do. Some people can eat healthy and the weight just doesn't come off at all while others can eat like a pig and are skinny as a rail.
You put in 6-8 miles (800-900 calories) a few times a week and I'll bet that weight somehow starts to come off.
Without a doubt some sort of cardio/roadwork is needed in boxing. I can attest to that. I ****** in sparring because I never did any running/cardio. You have no idea how hard it is to keep moving around the ring for a full 3 minutes while guarding yourself, throwing back punches, ducking/dodging, weaving in and out, and just trying to stay on your feet when someone is coming at you to take your head off.
If I would have put more effort into my cardio, I think my sparring sessions would have gone a lot better. My only weakness was gassing out very quickly because of that.
It's also what I would say makes or breaks a fighter. The minute you stop doing your roadwork/cardio or slacking, that's when your game goes down hill. It's when you see pressure fighters no longer putting on as much pressure. It's when you see younger guys with great punch resistance getting rocked because they've slowed down on their roadwork.
So no, this isn't MMA where you can just stand still and hope to land a crane kick or falcon eagle claw. This is boxing where generally standing in 1 spot or barely being mobile leaves you and your head an easy target to be KTFO.
LMAO.....so true, just like Juan Diaz - all he did was swim and he was a lean machine!!!
Damn I would think swimming would have him more ripped than running. But to answer the original question I think its important to run I find it helps with my breathing and also I find sparring does help more with endurance as far as actual fight endurance cause its basically a fight but you don't wanna step in and start sparring without building a good foundation from running cause youll get ****ed up
Running, like many other exercises, gets the heart rate up to where you can maintain it through consistency. Why not improve your cardio when you need it?
Running outside is also a form of therapy and peace (depending on where you train). The full body "motion" is a typical part of every day life.
