Pacquaio didn't really turn down $40 million because Pac dioes not have the authority to negotiate on his own behalf. He works for Bob Arum and Arum determines who he fights, when he fights and how much money he makes. Arum had no intention of making a fight with Mayweather after the first and only negotiation failed. Pac had no more authority to accept the offer from Mayweather than Nonito Donaire had the authority to accept the $3 million offer from GBP to fight Abner Mares.

Why would Arum or any promoter take 40m for the biggest fight of all time when he can get that much for another Cotto or JMM rematch? Not even 5, 3 and 4 brought in that much with no anticipation. 5 would do way better

PAC should have snapped his hand off with that offer 40 mill is susbstansially more than PAC has ever made and more than he's likely to make for the rest of his career.

He had poor advisors around him! It's all good saying he deserves a percentage but that 40 was real money not projected potential earnings! Floyd will go on to earn more than that loads more fighting Canelo will pac ever even get half of that?

Per Dan Rafael. Pac's recent guarantees were 26. That's the minimum he was due, and it was paid by Arum. If he takes anything off the back end, that's on top of the guarantee. You can't lose money on the back end!

It's like this:

Pac (or any fighter) fights on another promoters card for a fixed amount of money > promoter takes a fixed cut (his "minimum"), fighter gets the rest
Pac (or any fighter) fight on his own promoter's card > his promoter pays him some guarantee + backend (if any), the fighter does not owe the promoter anything beyond that. The promoter negotiates the fighter's purse so he'd usually walk away with more than his minimum.

for example, for either JMM 3 or 4 TR + Pac's combined share was $40m+. Pac saw 26m, maybe a little more with upside. Arum walked away with more than 27%

I really don't believe he took home 26 million pre taxes. I'm sure his guarantee got cut up.

It's too late. Every boxing aficionado wanted Floyd to take the fight as soon as possible because things, like many in life, happen, unforeseen accidents on both sides, politics, fighters getting incapacitated, etc. He won't listen.
