If they were to pay $2M a piece to guys like, Matthyse, Petterson, Garcia, Broner, Rios, Khan, Alvarado, Provodnikov, Malignaggi, Alexander, Guerrero, Ortiz, Thurman, Abrgu to have sort of an unofficial tournament in a single year, don't you guys think that would be worth more than to have one Mayweather fight?

      I think so.

Showtime was simply the host and marketer of the PPV. They did the PPV so they could make millions, and in this one I calculated they made 7m. With that said, they also take all the risk. They potentially could have lost money, but that seems unlikely.

They would need to raise there yearly budget in order to use 32m more for fights. I think that would be great, especially if CBS got involved.
They probably lost major money on this one. The figure that came out was 1.1 - 1.2m to break even. SHO reacted angrily, but didn't provide any other figure. And the above was estimated by industry pros, they probably know the breakdown well

Is it just me or if you pay all those guys 1 mil or 2 mil and there was enough bread to go around the table it would be nothing but mismatches and no need to make good fights

No because most boxing fans that know and want to watch those fighters and are willing to pay will already have showtime. Those names aren't going to make casual fans that only watch big fights want to subscribe.

how many times has mayweather gone over 1.1 or 1.2 mil?? very few. and even when he did, he usually does about 1.5 max. so tell me, what company in their right mind would take a huge gamble on a guy going 1.2 mil to get even every time when he usually does about that much anyways? u guys dont understand business, because what u suggest would be horrible, horrible business. thats not how corporations do business. thats not how these ceo's gamble. so industry insiders come up with these numbers but in the end the numbers dont make sense. corporations dont gamble for what woulds be minimal returns. thats just not how it works.

I dunno but 32m is a massive guarantee for the likes of Guerrero, Devon, etc

The Mayweather name brings something those other fights can't.

There is a lot about branding etc you need to understand before posting stuff like this.

****** thread. Think before you create.

Showtime's money comes thru their subscribers, at the end of the day that is their end goal of the entire network, to get more subscribers and have that monthly guarantee income.

You really think that a PPV fight as boring as Guerrero/Floyd is going to get them any subscribers? Over say, a bunch of possible wars (based on styles) between those names that I mentioned?
No the money comes from deals they make with cable providers. They dont really see your subscription fee, they get the money a cable company pays to broadcast the channel.
