For $32M, Showtime cut put together 10 or 15 fights like Matthyse/Peterson

Isn't that crazy, for what it costs them to pay Mayweather ($32M), Showtime could instead put together 10 or 15 cards per year of the quality of Mattyhsse/Peterson.

If they were to pay $2M a piece to guys like, Matthyse, Petterson, Garcia, Broner, Rios, Khan, Alvarado, Provodnikov, Malignaggi, Alexander, Guerrero, Ortiz, Thurman, Abrgu to have sort of an unofficial tournament in a single year, don't you guys think that would be worth more than to have one Mayweather fight?

    I think so.

With $32 million it's possible they could put some of those fights on CBS.

It would be great for boxing fans.

They don't put out 32m... I did some simple math and came out with them ahead 7mif it's 900k buys. So... Now they have 39m to play with.

I'm of two minds. For hardcore fans that would be great, and I also think that that approach would create/develop a wider fan base. Looking at football [soccer] I think Match of the day ( which is free) encouraged my interest in the sport. If I had to pay per view and the matches were spaced out I wouldn't be so interested.

That being said, Mayweather brings them an immediate gain in terms of exposure and money. It's possible that they are using his name to kick start marketing boxing as you've described. Which case things could work out.

Showtime's money comes thru their subscribers, at the end of the day that is their end goal of the entire network, to get more subscribers and have that monthly guarantee income.

You really think that a PPV fight as boring as Guerrero/Floyd is going to get them any subscribers? Over say, a bunch of possible wars (based on styles) between those names that I mentioned?

Why are you talking about subscribers now? You said they paid 32m for Floyd. They did not. That was Mayweathers guarantee on the revue drawn from PPV, ticket sales, etc.

Showtime was simply the host and marketer of the PPV. They did the PPV so they could make millions, and in this one I calculated they made 7m. With that said, they also take all the risk. They potentially could have lost money, but that seems unlikely.

They would need to raise there yearly budget in order to use 32m more for fights. I think that would be great, especially if CBS got involved.

Clearly you are wrong, and this is where Showtime might be screwed, simply because Mayweather had $32M guranteed regardless of how much PPV's they sold or how much the gate made, and that the case for the remainder of his 5 fights, which means the fans are more than likely screwed because he can choose to fight your mailman next and still make $32M.

Clearly I am wrong? I think this is pretty simple. You have zero clue how PPV fights work.

Showtime gives out guarantees, and takes all the risks. They don't pay fighters out of their own pocket unless the PPV is a disaster and they don't break even.

All the money made is from ppv revenue, ticket sales, t-shirts, and everything else in between. That money is doled out to the fighters and PPV, and whatever is left Showtime gets.

PPV fights have nothing to do with there yearly budget for boxing.
