Never doubted for a second that this title unification would get made at 154lbs. It segways smoothly into a undisputed, lineal middleweight title shot vs. Martinez for 2014. Those are two winnable legacy fights for Floyd's foreseable future.

Am I the only guy whose fingers are crossed that Richard Schaefer can not only get this fight made but furthermore that he can persuade Floyd to help finance Mares vs. Rigondeaux as the co-main event? Both sides have been flapping their lips about a face-off at 122lbs recently and Rigondeaux has been repeatedly mentioned for a September return date :~)

WTF are you talking about? Rigo is signed with Top Rank and Mares is with GBP thus not happening. And if the record money GBP offered Top Rank for the Donaire Mares fight wasn't enough then that fight is never happening.

They should invest some of that record money on their jank undercard standards:

It will be a good experience for canelo he would face a solid boxer and good puncher would like to see how that plays out. Money wise it makes more sense you have th pr vs mex rivalry two of the biggest names in boxing fighting. Fighting cotto is the same as floyd fighting guererro competition wise although canelo vs cotto it makes more sense. It will be canelos first ppv and what ither than to have cotto on the opposing side in mexican indendence day. Wouldnt be shocked if it does close to or over 1 million buys

I'm talking about Richard Schaefer killing two birds with one stone. Floyd's got a co-promotion arrangement with Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy; it's a well-known business venture. He can call upon his personal relationship with Rigondeaux who has training sessions with Uncle Roger at his gym to secure his participation in this potential PPV blockbuster. If he truly wants to maximize sales he could offer the winner of the Mares vs Rigondeaux co-main event status for future PPV fights as well as a small guaranteed % of the September PPV proceeds.
This is what I feel Golden Boy Promotions has their eye on - make the very most of the few fight events Floyd's got left before he transitions into promoting on a permanent basis and enhance their likelihood of signing Rigondeaux in late 2014 after his Top Rank deal expires.

Rigondeaux doesn't have the marketability of Donaire nor the fanbase of Mares and Top Rank has basically acknowledged as much publicly - they cannot come up with anything comparable to this potential PPV business venture and they only have Rigondeaux under contract for two more fights anyway. For a taste, small taste but still a % guarranteed, of the PPV proceeds, Schaefer & Floyd's got all the leverage to enhance their business venture here.

Again, the charge leveled against Manny was a specific charge, whereas with Floyd any charge no matter how unfounded or scurrilous sticks. So again, ahem, my point is that anything said by anyone finds a home in the hearts of the haters. Which of these two (Mayweather Sr/Schaefer) are more raw and and don't hold anything back or mince words and which one is paid to BS the public and keep relations under control and do damage control? Pretty easy to figure that one out.
