Mares has been underrated for a few years now.

He should have gotten the W over Perez, won a close fight with Darchinyan, and has clear cut wins over Agbeko, Moreno, and Ponce.

He's off to a damn good start and he's still only 27. The only thing that sucks if he probably only has another 3 or 4 years max of prime or peak ability left. His style is rugged most of the time and he's in wars a lot of times it seems. His style won't let him be effective like Marquez was well into his 30's.

Marquez is full of jealously and envy towards Canelo's success and popularity from day one.

He's always criticizing Canelo and never praises him in the slightest, he is bitter because Canelo, even if unproven and green as he is, is still more popular than Marquez.

He has no problem praising Mares because Mares is still largely unknown even to mexican fans, also no matter what Mares does, he will never be a mega-star simply because he belongs in the smaller weight classes, Canelo's star potential is way bigger in that sense

Marquez is a typical case of an old guy wishing he was still young and hating on the new generation. He envies Canelo's youth, popularity, good looks and potential, because when Marquez was Canelo's age, he was still fighting cab drivers in mexico and nothing he could say will change that

Veiled shot at Canelo or not, Marquez isn't wrong in what he said. Mares is P4P material, and has been since he beat Moreno.

It is all bout resume - abner mares has cleaned out the division and fights the best like marquez. Canelo and chavz jr. Are both good fighters wi th canelo being better, but jose sulaiman is too blatantly biased . How in the hell does the president of a so called unbiased organization blatantly be biased towards mexican fighters? Look at what dude has done for morales who tested positive. And got suspended? Big Mares fan here and even though I'm a way bigger fan of Mares then I am of Canelo, I can just sense all the hate coming out of this guy. Sad to see too cuz Marquez is as respectable a boxer you can find in the sport.
