I just watched Mikkel Kessler destroy Eric Lucas this weekend. I've never seen Kessler fight before, but I thought that his hard straight punches looked like they might be very effective vs the slapping haymakers thrown by Calzaghe or Lacy. He stands a little too straight up (like most euros do) though, so his chin might get checked, but he looked like the real deal to me. I was pretty impressed. Anybody know much about him?
Kessler ... could he beat Calzaghe or Lacy?

Kessler is for real, and he is the best kept secret in boxing, the winner of the Calzaghe-Lacy bout needs to fight Kessler. And yes I can see him potentially beating both guys.Last edited by ChrististheAnswer2; 01-16-2006, 02:22 AM. -
Quite a secret, I'd say, at least for American fans. He's one of those guys that I would just read over the name a lot because until Lacy came along, the division seemed dead, like there was only Calzaghe and the occasional fight on HBO (or did Calzaghe use to fight on Showtime, no matter, you get the point). He looked much better all around than Lacy, maybe not as strong and I don't know about his chin, but his skills are miles above Lacy's.Originally posted by ChrististheAnswer2Kessler is for real, and he is the best kept secret in boxing, teh winner of the Calzaghe-Lacy bout needs to fight Kessler.Last edited by RiverCityMike; 01-16-2006, 02:25 AM.Comment

I think Kessler would outpoint Lacy purely on a styles match-up, but Lacy is less experienced at the moment and will get better. Calzaghe is a more skilfull and powerful fighter than Kessler and would probably get the win (yet again going by their respective styles) because he is just such a slick fighter when he wants to be.Comment

Well, although Lucas may be on the other side of the hill, he hasn't hit rock bottom yet and he can be pretty slick as well. It was a very impressive 1-sided beating put on by Kessler against quite a solid guy as far as this comparatively weak division goes.Originally posted by BeowulfI think Kessler would outpoint Lacy purely on a styles match-up, but Lacy is less experienced at the moment and will get better. Kessler is impressive indeed, but Calzaghe is more experienced and at the moment is the better fighter. Kessler will be a star though, once he comes stateside he'll build up a following.Comment

Not a problem. I am a Calzaghe fan though.
