He doesn't need to be. You don't need to have a one-hitter quitter when your opponent is so gassed out he can't even keep his hands up. Punches hurt a heck of a lot more when you're exhausted. And Floyd's power is underrated.

That said, yeah, Canelo had stamina issues, but it isn't some unfixable situation like Amir Khan's Swarovski chin. He loaded up on too many shots, didn't fight efficiently. Spent energy on the needless showboating and the excess head movement display. He did catch that 2nd wind so it's not like he was a sitting duck for the rest of the fight. But his team has it's work cut out.

Talking about Trout's punch-resistance, not his punching power. Trout is a big 154lb fighter and Cotto couldn't hurt him whereas Canelo's power fcuked him up.

Victor Ortiz landed on Mayweather, ditto for Mosley and Cotto. Floyd stands in front of his opponents now.

I think his stamina will be alright if he's not loading up and throwing his whole body into it, then missing. Repeatedly.

He did that early against Trout, he was looking for a one punch KO. Maybe he has already fallen in love with his power?

If he can correct his pacing, his stamina should follow suit. I doubt he is dull enough to just repeatedly load up on one punch against Mayweather though, shouldn't be too much of a factor.

lara, martinez (if he decides to move back down) molina. vanes. (yes vanes, i like the fact that he trashed trout and put him on dream street in the amateurs) are all above trout.

& maybe angulo & ishe smith are on par with trout.

This is a wierd situation. He did come off of a long layoff but this was an issue when he was active. And hes not a pressure fighter like a Rios, who also has stamina issues, yet he cant go 12 hard rounds. 431 total punches against Trout is about 40 punches per round. That wont get it done against Floyd.

I think that he took quite a lot of body shots so he was slowed down, plus he had to use a lot of energy evading punching.

Someone pointed out that most his age fight less rounds and that is true. The more older guys can't fight full pace as when they were young, but maintain a fast pace by learning how to relax and conserve energy with experience. Canelo needs to learn how to do that.

He loads up to much and when he gets hit with a combo he looks like a rabbit caught in headlines and runs on the back foot

At first I thought he was trying to set Trout up on the ropes then it became evident he was gassed, also the reason why he fought in spurts.

He is lucky Trout didn't pack a punch, cuz that right hand clipped him a few times.

I think he would have problems against a pressure fighter with power and reach

I wouldn't call that an example of good conditioning. He didn't push the pace, and neither did Mosley. The Trout fight just further proves that he doesn't trust in his stamina. Either that, or he simply doesn't have a killer instinct.

If he gets the Mayweather fight, he will pay for it. There is no way you can be successful against Mayweather if after only 5 rounds you are tired. No way. I dont care how much he would outweigh Floyd on fight night.
