40,000 people in attendance doesn't mean canelo has the power.

I was at the fight. I think Canelo's selling power works both ways. People that diss it are going way overboard and people who act like he's a special draw point black, period are also going way overboard.
They sold 40,000 and probably couldve had more if they wanted to. However, there were a ton of very cheap tix and also at the same time, they all werent cheap.
We have to aknowledge that he is Mexican and boxing is just a way bigger sport in Mexico than in the US. Thats going to give him a huge head start over alot of fighters in the 1st place. The fight was in San Antonio which has a huge huge huge Mexican population. The fight was also during Fiesta which means a trillion Mexicans will be in the area at the time anyways so why not go see Canelo fight?
All of those are big factors. Its not like he just went anywhere and sold 40,000. Its like because Devon Alexander does great draws in St. Louis or Peterson does great draws in DC doesnt make them huge draws. At the same time with that being said, 40,000 is 40,000 and like I said, Im sure it couldve been even more. I mean, you can give free tix away and hardly anyone can do 40,000 g's and he's not the only Mexican fighter.
All in all it was a great event for the most part. I felt some racism going on in the area but its to be expected and nothing went down so it was just a great fun night
Sorry to hear that, hope you had a good time though. I would have loved to be there, especially for all the fiesta festivities that were going on.Comment

Pac-Marg had 40K people and a gate of $5.4 mil. Thats an average of $135 a ticket. Thats less then 2X of this fight.
Pac-Clottey had 36,400 people and had a gate of $6.36 mil, thats and average of $159 a ticket, almost exactly 2X of this fight.
So Pac's tickets werent at least $250 each, in fact that average price of those tickets werent anywhere near that.
The fact that Canelo does half of what pac did there is hugeLast edited by Russian Crushin; 04-22-2013, 12:06 PM.Comment

Again, those tickets that were in the $10 didn't last long because it inflated when they realized how many people wanted to go. Those $10 tickets were going for $50 and $60 online. The reason it sold so well is because he's very popular here and it was around Fiesta time. Some people are so fu(kin' ******.
The co-promoters Leijabattah, I know personally. One is my trainer and boss and the other I knew at the gym before he was a promoter. So I hear the behind the scene things, even when the fight was first signed to be in SA.Comment

He shined alright, you should of heard the roars throughout every single round. It didn't matter what he did, he got cheers throughout the night. When he dropped Trout, some people got up so fast to cheer, I thought they strained their backs. I didn't see no one upset after the fight, everyone was happy when leaving the Alamodome, so what you have to say is false. Come again...Agree. The so called badass Mexican coasted on the champion ship rounds against a guy that couldn't hurt him cause he was informed he was way up in the cards. That **** was weak. Even Rigo pressed the action in the last round when he didn't have to against a guy that had dropped him earlier and had power to knock him out. Morales pressed that action when he was up on the cards against Pac and even switched to south just to clown Pac who was still dangerous. This was Canelo's moment to shine and what does he do, he plays it safe against a guy that couldn't hurt him. Open scoring does suck cause it tames brawlers and takes the game out of technictions.Comment
