40,000 people in attendance doesn't mean canelo has the power.

Y'all act like he sold out cowboys stadium at normal ppv ticket prices.
I assume that many of the fans in san an will be in Vegas should they fight. Yes seats were cheap but the front row seats and those close were usual price.

the live gate will give a better idea of how many regular priced seats were sold.

Sell just $13 dollar tickets for just about any fighter and they probably wont fill 40K seats. $11 seats were for ones all the way at the top, and rightfully so since watching the fight from there sucks. Ticket prices went up to $300. Canelo is probably the 3rd biggest draw behind Pac and Floyd, i dont understand why people are downplaying his popularity. The kid is 22 and selling 40K tix against a guy like trout

I think the crap with the open scoring and the wide scores is taking too much away from Canelo's win. He won a close fight against a very good fighter. It may not have been "spectacular" from an entertainment point but this was a very big win for him.

Don't know what fight you were at but I was in the Alomodome and Canelo was the reason everyone was there. I saw Ray friggen Lewis at the fight and heard the Lakers were there too. What other reason would Ray Lewis have for coming to SA if he wasn't interested in the fight?
Maybe the OP is just mad because he could only afford the nosebleads. I had some decent seats and had a good view of the action. Looking up I can see where you would be butthurt, there was no good viewing angle in the upper deck and it was hard to see the jumbotron screens.
Canelo would sell out in Vegas as well, Mexicans support boxing more than anyone else. They would show up.

I said his good, but not great. Atleast not yet. Dude is only 22years old so am not knocking him. He still has more to do to be considered great. Trout was his actual first test and he didn't look all that good. He looked average, but considering his 22 its not bad.

Agree. The so called badass Mexican coasted on the champion ship rounds against a guy that couldn't hurt him cause he was informed he was way up in the cards. That **** was weak. Even Rigo pressed the action in the last round when he didn't have to against a guy that had dropped him earlier and had power to knock him out. Morales pressed that action when he was up on the cards against Pac and even switched to south just to clown Pac who was still dangerous. This was Canelo's moment to shine and what does he do, he plays it safe against a guy that couldn't hurt him. Open scoring does suck cause it tames brawlers and takes the game out of technictions.

There are different ways to win a fight, against different types of fighters. If you watch the Trout vs Cotto fight, Trout hit Cotto with everything early on because Cotto was moving forward and was unable to box with a big, strong, slick lefty.

Canelo didn't make the same mistake. I agree it was a close fight but let's not think it wasn't "impressive" it was. He showed a dimension that most didn't think he had. He boxed him, moved and took his left hand away and really nullified the jab because even though trout threw it a million times, he didn't land it enough to dictate the fight.

On the other hand, Canelo ended up landing the harder more effective jabs and it was the jab feint that resulted in the big right hand that dropped Trout in the 7th.

You have to read between the lines and see the fight for what it was. Canelo dominated IMO, it was close but man was I impressed with the way he showed another aspect to his game.
