This.I agree. People say that Floyd is scared. This is why we have weight classes. It didn't use to be like this. In my opinion, if a fighter actually weights 2 weight classes above the weigth class that they are fighting in, then they are the ones that cherry-picking. Floyd would have to gain a few pounds to be at around 152 for a 154 pound fight, while Canelo would be at 172 easy.
One of boxing's biggest problems is the fact that most casual fans don't seem to mind watching a guy weigh in at 154 and fight the next night at super middleweight or light heavyweight. Heck, I don't even know if most of these fans are paying close enough attention to recognize that's what's happening. They just want to see a guy treating his opponent like a punching bag for 12 rounds, so who cares?
The result: boxing becomes an exercise in weight management. Guys that do it successfully (almost always when they're younger and can deal with the stresses of gaining and shedding 30+ pounds on a regular basis) can obtain a significant strength and mental advantage; the less fortunate drain themselves and gas out.
More importantly, weight is a big reason promoters and the media focus fan attention on ridiculous fights that shouldn't happen, and often don't happen, leaving everyone disappointed. Floyd is a welterweight who basically fights where he weighs in. Canelo weighed in for the Trout fight just under 154 and fought last night at light heavyweight. That doesn't mean Floyd doesn't have the ability to beat Canelo, but why anybody who truly loves the sport of boxing would be interested in watching two guys who are likely to be ~20 pounds apart is beyond me. Even so, Floyd will be disingenuously accused of "ducking" Canelo for thinking twice about taking a fight against a super middleweight or light heavyweight.
Consider this: somebody like Canelo, who many consider the future of boxing, would be in a very tough spot if the rules didn't let boxers and promoters play the weight game. Canelo possesses good skills, has shown an ability to improve and is strong and intelligent, but he's only 5'9", lacks the type of pure athleticism and physicality that isn't uncommon in the sport and appears to have issues with conditioning. I think it's safe to say he would have a very difficult time at even middleweight, which is still a good 20+ pounds south of the weight he's probably walking around at.
The obvious solution: go back to same-day weigh-ins. We'll get fewer manufactured champions, better conditioned fighters, more competitive fights and less of the political nonsense that has driven so many fans away from the sport.Comment

Mayweather can easily beat Canelo, but it all depends on how much he's declined. Its an interesting fight, but I'm not sure if Mayweather will take it. I think it depends on how well he does against Guerrero. Mayweather just might lose that fight.Comment

you know nothing about boxing, floyd is forced to fight the ghost because it's mandatory because he actually wanted to fight devon alexander. As far as ortiz goes, no ones talks about the head butt he did but I forgot floyd his black and he's undefeated so people hate because he is real and don't kiss ass like the golden boy for example who said floyd is the best in history but now he says something different. Showtime gave floyd this deal for a reason which makes him the richest athelete world wide and he is black so people like you can't stand that so deal with it or leave the country oh i forgot the president is black alsoComment

Man one want to read this crap. It's ok for Fraud to come in 16lbs over on fight night vs JMM but not cool for Canelo. And most of all, Fraud is a 154lb champ. He's the one who said he doesn't fight at catchweight. Right??? Lol... Fraud is a MASTER DUCKER & he WILL DUCK Canelo!!!!This is ******! Mayweather is a 36 year old WW who comes into the ring at 152 at the most. He has no business in the ring with some 22 year old kid coming in at 172 pounds and still growing! Canelo doesn't need Floyd, he just drew a crowd of 40,000 by himself, he needs to create his own legacy now. Not constantly piggyback off of Floyd, If he wants Floyd that bad he should go down to 147. Oh wait, he can't. Just like Floyd can't make 154.. Canelo's nest fight would do just fine against Cotto, Martinez, or Angulo then there's GGG, Quillin...ect plenty of fights for Canelo out there around 154Comment

And more deaths. This isnt clever, its ****** and bases itself on the incorrect assumption that all fighters have an identical metabolism and can micromanage things like rehydration. Go and talk to some fighters or hang out with some who are busting their ass to make weight. If they gain 20lbs its just weight, not strength...that takes a lot longer than 36 hours to return. Gaining too much back too quickly is actually more of a hindrance than a help.This.
