  • Yeah, I watched the fight in super slow mo and nothing changed. Rigo schooled him.

Donaire before the fight: He does the same thing over and over, I will KO him. Now the excuses and this sad attempt of feeling sorry for himself and padding on the back.

Only question mark left for me is his ability to fight whilst uncomfortable and on the inside.

So far, he's managed to not be forced to fight out of his comfort zone. And he may never have to. He may fight Mares and just box him to death. Or someone else who brings pressure and a skilled inside game with power and chin.

But so far, he hasn't shown me how he deals with that kind of style where a guy want's to get inside on him and work there. And for example, can't stop them from getting inside. You know what I mean? He may never have to do that but it's still a question mark for me.

If he fights someone who brings this to the table and beats the crap out of them on the inside in spells then the guy will be close to unstoppable

Man, if I went back and tried to remember all the things that were said by Donaire and his fans before the fight...

During the post-fight interview, Nonito started off on the right foot when he said, "I want to thank Rigo for his beautiful boxing." It's all been downhill from there.

        • I don't pay attentiom nor do I judge a fighters comments after a loss! He didn't offer much in emotion during the fight so I'm not sure why this emotion came out afterwards. Its not easy to accept loses and its not supposed to be easy!! He has alot of skills and should make a great return. As long as he trains and gets physically & mentally ready. He was neither this time out and he payed big for it!! Ray.

Given my list alone, I believe Rigo has the tools to beat anyone. I do think that, at the moment, Guille is so good he won't have to fight too far out of his comfort zone. The only remaining question for me is how good "El Chacal" will perform through adversity. We may never need to find that out either. In a sense, we've already had a glimpse. Beating a P4P fighter so easily requires a measure of will. I think there might be more to Rigo than we saw even with Donaire. Guillermo, like all greats, seems to rise with the level of opposition.

              • Yeah as soon as Rigo got hit in the first and landed a left right back that made Donaire stumble Donaire immediately started posing trying to feint him out as opposed to just attacking. Rigo's performance was one of the slickest we've had in a long time. And against a stud in Donaire.

How many people do this? Back turned, landed punch, in control of his footing and Donaire looking like a bull chasing a matador. Like this pic. Sucks its at Donaires expense but yeah.

                • So i'm watching the fight again for probably the 10th time and I noticed at the end of the fight Donaire walks over to Rigondeaux's corner and says, "you're the best". Did anyone else catch that? Are my ears playing games on me?

If he did say that, why would he think he won?

The fans were right to boo Rigo

No need to be polite about it. Most def, 'Trane and Tupac reside on different musical strata. Similarly, Nonito must overcome his current denial and accept the fact that he's not on the same level as Rigo. If not, he's never going to overcome his weaknesses.

I loved Rios/Alvarado II as much as anyone but this masterpiece by Rigo is one for the ages, a keeper.

Off topic: Robert Garcia should have told his fighter before the 12th that Nonito needed a KO to win.
