Debates about how Cuban amateur stars would fare among the elites at the pro level have been going on for years. Does Teofilo Stevenson vs. Ali ring a bell?

Rigondeaux is 32 years old. We're seeing an older version of what many claim to be the greatest amateur fighter of all time. Imagine what his reflexes and speed were like at 24? How many world titles would he have won and where would he rank pound for pound?

The Donaire fight was real life evidence that we can now point to and start to wonder how other Cuban fighters in past years would have done if they had the luxury of having their careers babied at a young age and the opportunity to slowly progress through the pro system. It's one fight but its a much bigger deal than a lot of you are making it out to be.

Many credible people in the boxing world have said that he is one of the most skilled fighters they have ever seen. Are there statements ridiculous too?

I'm not saying he's going to become a hall of famer or an ATG. But debates like this are fair game because of the circumstances that Cuban fighters face.

Age is all relative. Rigo is a very young 32. Four round amateur fights do not equal real pro fights. He does not have much wear and tear on him at all.

Debates like this are not fair game when he has only beaten one very good fighter. Let's see how he fairs against other good fighters first. We have the luxery of seeing him actually face more pro competition. He has the potential to be better than Floyd sure...

Some people in here already comparing him to top 20 guys like Hopkins and Mayweather is pretty crazy. As good as Donaire was (A HOF most likely) he had been feasting on guys who were suited for his style. We'll see what happens when Rigo fights a guy who can take his best shots and keep on coming. A guy who will get inside and mix it up and get rough with him.

Good point. Corrales is actually better at creating offense than Donaire too, and went on to beat better fighters. Corrales beating Robert, John, Angel, Derrick smoke, Justin are just as good as Nonito beating Vic, Fernando, Jeffery, Jorge and Wilfredo

We'll see what Donaire does after this now but Corrales did a lot after as well.

Entering the pro level so late robbed him of the chance to have an extended pro career. He's not going to have an 8-10 year career to rack up achievements and clean out weight divisions. He was at a 10 pound weight disadvantage in each of his last two fights. It basically means he will probably be stuck at 122 unless a featherweight makes him an offer he can't refuse.

And I don't think the purpose of this thread was to compare achievements at the pro level. I think it was intended to compare the technical aspects of how they box. Comments like "Donaire is better than anybody Floyd has faced so therefore Rigo" are ridiculous but others have made some very good points that should not be dismissed automatically.

I watched all the fights. There was a reason most writers were picking Corrales to stop Floyd. Floyd looked bad in the Burton bout.

So if Corrales didn't deserve it who did? Simple question.
