Debates about how Cuban amateur stars would fare among the elites at the pro level have been going on for years. Does Teofilo Stevenson vs. Ali ring a bell?
Rigondeaux is 32 years old. We're seeing an older version of what many claim to be the greatest amateur fighter of all time. Imagine what his reflexes and speed were like at 24? How many world titles would he have won and where would he rank pound for pound?
The Donaire fight was real life evidence that we can now point to and start to wonder how other Cuban fighters in past years would have done if they had the luxury of having their careers babied at a young age and the opportunity to slowly progress through the pro system. It's one fight but its a much bigger deal than a lot of you are making it out to be.
Many credible people in the boxing world have said that he is one of the most skilled fighters they have ever seen. Are there statements ridiculous too?
I'm not saying he's going to become a hall of famer or an ATG. But debates like this are fair game because of the circumstances that Cuban fighters face.

Rigondeaux is an incredible fighter, one of the best I've seen, but right now I think Ward and Floyd are more skilled than him, prime Hopkins and Toney are probably slightly ahead too.
And to the guy saying Rigondeaux has 1 great win and Floyd only good wins, you probably started watching boxing in the last year. Floyd against Corrales was an underdog just like Rigo against Donaire. Corrales was top 5 p4p just like Donaire. Corrales was crushing guys juste like Donaire, and I think Floyd dominated Corrales way more than Rigo against Donaire. Also Floyd totally outclassed Marquez who is one of the more skilled fighter I've seen, people forget how incredible it is to do it, and don't begin with the weight thing cause Floyd didnt bully or used his weight at all in this fight, it was all speed and skills.

If not, who did at the time?
