How so? The tournament that we all want is happening. Who cares about what belts are on the line?

Put it this way. If Matthysse won the IBF title from Peterson and was forced to fight some bum on their mandatory challenger list (which you have to do in 9 months) which prevents a Garcia fight, would you be happier? All it would do is create a 25th reason why not to make the fight.

Cmon, they are keeping one of their fighters a champ win or lose, while preventing he other fighter from winning a belt. We all know belts matter a ton in boxing no matter how many times we say they dont, otherwise they wouldnt have to fight at WW to protect belt at all costs. This isnt even a JWW fight! People complain about vacant belts given to undeserving fighters but in this case, a loser of a fight might be allowed to keep his belt. Its a marvelous back handed business move by a promoter but as a fan, why would anybody support it.

An interim belt is not a champ. Yea he has to beat a champ, but wont get the title, to get a shot at another title, while the title holder, who if he loses, will keep the belt no matter what.

People want to automatically label Golden Boy as the one to blame, but... The WBC has already issued a statement about forcing Danny Garcia to choose between vacating one of the two titles he unified. How would they react to their interim titleholder attempting to unify his title with the IBF?

Whether it's Golden Boy wanting to have 3 different fighters holding 3 of the 4 titles in the division, the WBC trying to force the vacating of their title to avoid unification, or managers/advisers wanting to have the safety net for the risk taken, this is an obvious political move.

People talk about the sanctioning bodies being terrible (because of their obviously corrupt decision making), but continue to place value on their garbage. I don't care though... This is an excellent match-up that will probably turn out to be a great fight and settle who are the best at Jr. Welterweight.

Yes point stands that a dirty cheat is being protected with a belt at lucas' expense. Peterson will be a champ if he loses but Lucas cannot be a champ if he wins.

Wrong, we're getting a WW fight and then a JWW fight, who might meet. Problem with fans is that they look at possible "goods" without calling out promoters on their "bads" in the process

We all care about belts. This wouldnt even be a paper title as the winner of this fight would have a legit claim at being the top 140 fighter. You care, i care, just about all fans care about belts even if they pretend like they dont. This is the problem, we care so much, that belt organizations can get away with corruption. Paulie is holding Cano's title, but you see what kind of fight paulie having a belt has produced. Paulie-Broner would never be considered if paulie did not hold that title. Titles also bump you up in rankings. Morales was the #4 JWW after losing to Marcos and beating top 50 Pablo cano for a vacant WBC title, which in turn bumped Garcia's rating up for beating him. Belts matter a lot, GBP wouldnt be doing this fight at WW if they didnt
