I actually think its smart. I would do it all the time. Just keepin it real. If I was a promoter and both of my guys have the belt. The fans still get to see the fight they want but both by guys come out with there belts. Not only that but you might get to make alot more big fights because guys wouldnt be scared to lose there belts.

You lose unifications but the main thing is that the guys fought eachother and thats what we all want. Thats what will carry the weight.

Makes sense. Belts don't determine who the "real" champions in each division are anyways. Winning fights does.

The winner of this tournament will be the universally recognized champion at 140 whether he has 0 belts or 5 belts.

This is obviously being done to protect Peterson's belt. Lucas will lose his WBC mando spot with a loss, no matter the weight. A win will give Lucas a world title and a lot of leverage in a Garcia negotiation as a unification. This is complete bull**** wow

If it was Matthysse because he wanted to keep his WBC mandatory spot, then that might be a bad move because it's not clear if Garcia will keep the WBC or WBA.

If it was Peterson, bitch move.

I don't see why Matthysse would request it, as he has the chance to become World Champ in his next fight, waiting for a shot at Garcia makes no sense as Garcia is better than Peterson too, probably.

Yes, because if Peterson requested it, the chances are that he's just trying to hold onto his title for as long as possible and sees this fight as a major threat to it. Matthysse doesn't have a world title to lose.

I agree with you up to a point. This sort of underhanded bullshit is still pathetic though. Even if you don't care about the belts, GBP obviously do. Controlling the belts between 140 and 154 is clearly a top priority for them.

You should be worried about Garcia cause win or lose Matthysse keeps being his mando... Unless GB or the WBC screw him over.
