Read it properly, Schaefer isn't talking about squashing anything, he's going in and is intimating he could expose HBO and TR in front of the media when in reality if it happened it would just be more he-said, she-said b/s that boxing fans are tired of.

The war between the networks is getting down and dirty behind the scenes, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.

On March 18th, HBO issued a press release which revealed an internal company decision to end their longtime business relationship with Golden Boy.

The tension between HBO and Golden Boy began in late 2011, when former Golden Boy attorney Steven Espinoza replaced Ken Hershman as the Vice President and General Manager of Showtime Sports. Soon after Espinoza's hire, Golden Boy started doing a voluminous amount of business with Showtime. Hershman is now the current President of HBO Sports.

The turning point in the Golden Boy/HBO relationship took place in September 2012. Golden Boy was looking to do a major card on September 15th with WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. HBO refused to give Golden Boy the date. The network would instead reserve the previously mentioned September date for a pay-per-view event, which was headlined by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez and promoted by Golden Boy's main rival, Top Rank. I think what we are seeing is GBP taking a step back from their stance. Lets face it. GBP and Al tried to strong arm HBO. We all saw it happening for the past few years. It was not shocking to me when HBO said enough was enough. That was only the final straw. We saw the buildup taking place long before. We saw Arum *****ing to the Media on how HBO was up GBP's a$$ and giving them most of the dates. GBP was playing tough forcing HBO to give them a certain number of fights per year etc. How were they forcing it? Most likely by threatening to take their business elsewhere. Over time they started putting more fights on showtime hoping HBO would come crawling on their hands and knees. Instead they got a middle finger from them!LOL

The Difference between GBP and Arum? Arum is a snake and will willingly admit to being so. GBP tries to act like the good guy but everyone knows that under the presentation, is a worse type of snake ready to bite.

I just don't see why you sound so bitter against Arum. You don't know him, he's never insulted you, he makes the fights that give his fighters the most money, and the best buildups which make them financially independent for the next few generations.

He's in that business, what's wrong with you? He's game, takes his knocks, rarely complains, nearly always has someting cerebral and interesting to say. look at the fighters he's promoted, the greatest in their eras, and all became celebrities. It was he who finally pushed Don King into comparative obscurity, for which we should all be very thankful.

And Ii can't forget what he did for Gennaro Hernandez and his family for so many years. He has my respect.

This doesn't hurt the sport one bit, on the contrary it energizes and promotes it. Boxing is the one sport where very little oversight exists and on top of that it's cloaked in constant intrigue. But look at it this way, we live in a culture that demands to be titillated and intrigued, even by the very very shallow. We live in a very shallow Kardahsian world, where drama, ***********ality, and hysteria reign with merciless supremacy. Look at Mayweather's public persona, all pomp, big talk and dollar bills. He knows he doesn't have to say anything substantive, he knows his audience thrives off of the slight of hand he's spoon feeding them.

Granted this is a two edged sword, so while boxing and all of its drama is making Floyd Mayweather a mint, it may be diminishing a sport that's storied and rich with tradition. The folks that have claimed boxing was dead or is dying need to open their eyes and see the real world. Boxing is filled with too much human suffering, desire, reward and defeat to simply vanish.

You must live in a box.Or your not a boxing fan. You can't possibly watch boxing and have never even seen previews of either show.

I like game of thrones. It's a good show. I would watch Dexter and Homeland over it any day though. Nothing ever happens in Game of Thrones. It's so anticlimactic, and if I had to chose 3 good shows over 1 good show I would choose the 3.

Showtime doesn't have as good as movies, but it's already been said. If you area boxing fan then have both and watch the fights. I'm not sure why people are making this such a big deal and taking sides. Would you not watch boxing if all the big fights went onto CBS? Which owns Showtime.

It's an absurd feud. Do you only watch the NBA on TNT?Do you only watch the NFL on ESPN. WHy don't you guys STFU and watch some boxing.

I've never heard of any of these shows. Dexter of course but not game of thrones or shameless. I don't have HBO or showtime yet. But soon I'm getting both.

GBP hasn't started feeling the repercussions yet and won't because they have a good stable of fighters to last them a couple of years of good business with Showtime, but HBO and even Top Rank are experienced and well established organizations in the boxing community and GBP won't last very long trying to do things exclusively with Showtime.
