It's not his fault Fidel Castro wont let anybody leave Cuba unless they risk their life taking a boat to Florida. Rigondeaux would have turned pro after his first gold medal if he could and would have an even bigger pro status.

He's bviously not the best boxer in history. Yet?????

But honestly, when you have skills and you know you have skills, isn't this the type of attitude you're supposed to have? You don't go into any profession seeking to be just mediocre.

I'm sure deep down inside Donaire feels the same way, as do many other boxers.

Question: if Rigo beats Donaire, can he make this claim and have the type of victory to support it?

Dude, this was embarrassing to read. The fight you're referring to was Pernell's last. "Sweet Pea" lost three out of his last four contests, one to De La Hoya and another to Trinidad. We're talking about a great fighter here. If a boxer fights long enough, he'll eventually lose to someone not worthy to carry his jockstrap.

Yeah but thats not the way you want to go out. It practically ruins your legacy.

Just to point out Cubans are allowed to leave their country, but they have to apply for a traveling permit but I believe they ended that policy in 2012. They just can't be pros.

Although, even that is a little weird as Richard Abril actually lives in Cuba and is allowed to fight which I don't quite understand the technical reasons behind it. I've asked some Cuban homies how this is possible and its even a mystery to them.

              Absolutely 100% no.

Natas, it's misleading to say that Cubans are allowed to leave their country. While it's technically true, your statement implies a degree of ease. A Cuban citizen has to jump through hoops in order to get permission to travel to the United States -- and that's if they have relatives who'll claim them. Wrinkles in the policy change from time to time; but the way I always understood it, the Cuban government doesn't allow travel visas to Cuban citizens that might be considered a "flight risk." They feel much safer issuing visas to older people who have strong familial ties to the island.

When I first became aware of Abril's peculiar situation, I was surprised. I'd never heard of such a thing. There are a few Cuban members here who doubtlessly know more about these issues than I do. I hope they'll chime in.

Yes thats right its not easy, I didn't mean to imply that it is only technically its possible provided they are granted permission. There are some articles I've read last year that the policy has, or is going to change greatly under new laws by Raul Castro.

Yeah because right now I have Rigo in my Top 10 P4P list, if he beats Donaire and thats a big IF, then he moves into Top 5 P4P easily.
