Well, I guess I'm ending my relationship with HBO too. Boxing is the only reason I subscribe to HBO and frankly for the most part, Top Rank cards suuuuck. I must admit, the big fights aren't going to be the same with the ShowTime commentators, I don't really like that mma guy he sounds like he should be doing pro wrestling. What ever happened to Gus Johnson? That dude was intense.

HBO is dumb for announcing this. Why the need to make it public? Why burn any bridges, just go about your business and look to make the best fights regardless of promoter.
If Golden Boy only wants to play ball with Showtime so be it, but don't be the one to cut them off.
Also, Top Rank has a weak stable as of right now. Pac only has a about a year left. Bradley can't sell and Rios will be a shot fighter soon (its evident in interviews the guy already has severe brain damage.) Looks like I will have to look into getting showtime soon.

because they were pissed and overreacted. i'm hearing hbo was told "give us 6/22 or we're going to showtime" so they cut ties with broner/gbp

I told his goofy ass, that there weren't any negotiations in the first place. It was all bravado from Floyd on Twitter, knowing about Pacquiao's cut situation.
You know, I believe that most of the sweepings from the other boxing sites have congregated on BoxingScene. All the information, and interviews with direct quotes, have been freely available and published here more than once. Yet, these nincumpoops constantly time after time will keep dragging out the same old imaginary and fantastic drek. It really makes me wonder how they can support themselves in a job requiring normal intellgence--that is, if they actually do... Maybe they can write but not read.....

"Arum's" prefab arena the cretins keep screaming about, had nothing to do with Arum, he merely passed on the information to the fans, because he saw the plans. It was proposed by MGM Grand and was contingent on a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. There was no fight, so no stadium.

That arena was again announced just a couple of weeka ago. It'll be built by MGM Resorts and developers AEG behind the Monte Carlo hotel, and have 20,000 seats. It was also reported in The Las Vegas Review a few days ago, if anybody wants to check.

Still, it's the best site, with some fine writers.

Actually Kery Davis is still there if I'm not mistaken. I saw him at Home Depot Center last year waiting to get back to my seat and he intimated that he was the one calling the shots at HBO Boxing. Hershman basically got a promotion by getting the HBO job for doing good things like the Super 6. Greenburg was jettisoned because of all the BS package deals with GBP/Haymon that got them crap fights. Espinoza is a walking conflict of interests.

By going public with this news Hbo effectively:

1- Prevents GBP/Haymon from using them as a bargaining chip to drive up prices. Haymon/Schaefer can no longer say "HBO paid *enter a number* for *enter a GBP fighter's name* last fight driving up the price or causing a bidding war of sorts.

2- HBO effectively tells blue chip prospects if you sign with GBP you can forget fighting on our network

3- They also put pressure on Sho in that they (HBO) now have a bigger budget to pay TR, Cotto, DiBella, Shaw, Goosen, etc thus driving up the price for Sho to televise non- GBP fighters. Remember $200B+ is now locked in on 1 fighter. It's like baseball, you can back up the brinks truck for A-Rod but good luck fielding a team. Sho can pay Mayweather but how much do they have for Canelo and the rest of them. I predict GBP/Haymon will screw Sho and put Canelo on their own PPVs instead of giving it to Sho. Similar to what TR did to HBO when Chavez Jr became a draw.

One thing about this site. The amount of actual knowledge shown by most of the posters is slight, althoguh that doesn't prevent them from showing their ignorance. I'm grateful for this as it gives me lots of laughs.....

Not sure what this means for me personally, as a person outside of the US. I know Showtime have very good links with UK sports channels so hopefully it may mean for fights shown over here.

As for the business side, it just seems like another split within boxing
