I just cannot believe there are those in here who think the escalated splintering of the sport into factions is a good thing.

The bottom line is, a monopoly would be good for boxing, look what it's done for the UFC. Since promoters don't want to work with each other and in recent history it seems GB has been more willing to work with TR and been refused, can you blame them?
I want to see the best fights and if that means they are all coming from one stable, what do I care?Originally posted by ИATAS View PostA UFC model would NOT be good for boxing!
A monopoly would allow them to cherrypick fights and protect whatever "superstars" they want to artificially manufacture.
Originally posted by Carlos Alberto View PostI don't think this is necessarily bad for boxing. TR and GB will for sure have to put on the best fights possible (within their stable). We may not get Rios vs Garcia but we can get Garcia vs Matthysse. We may not get Donaire vs Mares but will get Donaire vs Rigondeaux... This move will force all four companies to up their product [HBO, SHO, TR, & GB].
Seems like Hershman is trying to take a stand and let Golden Boy know he won't be strong armed into letting the promoters dictate the who, what, when, where, and how.Last edited by Mikhnienko; 03-18-2013, 05:09 PM.

[QUOTE=rey guey;13160503]good for HBO. Hershman isn't buy crap anymore and that's what boxing needs. people forget but it was Golden Boy who sank HBO boxing to a level of medoricity. /QUOTE] Spot on Rey. HBO suffered for years because of those BS GBP package output deals that resulted in big license fees for crap fights (Berto anyone?). Hershman was brought in to sort that situation out. The GBP Showtime relationship with Espinoza is a conflict of interests for the overall good of boxing. They're basically trying to monopolize the business and have their former lawyer on the inside making sweetheart deals. The best fights I saw last year were on HBO or HBO PPV and they didn't involve any GBP fighters.

The network would instead reserve the previously mentioned September date for a pay-per-view event, which was headlined by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez and promoted by Golden Boy's main rival, Top Rank.

Showtime will continue to show mediocre low-profile fights in which an unexpected gem of a fight comes out of the woodwork once in awhile. Mayweather will be on PPV anyway so unless you are a huge Canelo fan this will only hurt GBP. It'll be interesting to see where things go when Arum retires.
