I Take My Hat Off To Pat Russell

It's not a rule man, it's acknowledging the fighter is hurt and giving him a moment to recoup, and the ref a moment to evaluate if safe to proceed. Tim was lucky there was barely any time left. Honestly if that's called a KD and the fighter reacts like that, should the fight proceed? Only if the ref heard the 10 second bell?
There's delayed reaction KDs all the time. Fighters take a knee, no punches landed, no points taken off right? That "push" does not go beyond the threshold of whats normal in boxing. Torres KD on Cotto is a legit push, and a legit scored KD, and Cotto was nowhere near as far gone.Comment

Should there have been two KDs in the 12th round of Martinez-Chavez? I don't remember anyone complaining about Chavez not getting credit for a KD the second time Martinez fell, which were under similar circumstances as the Bradley-Ruslan KD . Martinez was hit by a series of hard shots, which made Martinez duck his head way down and he got caught under the arms of Chavez. His legs were obviously gone and you could tell by the we he kind of fell back when the ref helped him up. I guess it didn't matter as far as the scoring goes, but it did matter for fighter safety reasons.
EDIT: actually, I'm talking about the first round of Bradley-Rusland. I didn't make that clear. The unofficial KD I should have said.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 03-18-2013, 03:38 AM.Comment

That was more residual. This happened due to a punch 3 seconds earlier, his legs went. I don't remember, did Sergio fall back down, then careen into the ropes on 2nd attempt? He was almost that bad on the first KD, but that was scored.Should there have been two KDs in the 12th round of Martinez-Chavez? lol could you imagine how pissed bradley and his loyal dozen followers would be?He had the opportunity to pull another Richard Steele and stop the fight with less than 2 seconds left or so. Thank God history didn't repeat itself, even though the opportunity was there.
Like many great fighters before him (i.e. Mayweather, Wlad, Tyson Jones, etc), Bradley was in a war with a fighter he was the favorite against. My hat off to Bradley, but more importantly, my hats off to Russell for knowing the situation, time, etc and not pulling some punk ass Richard Steele crap and stopping it with a second or two left in the fight.
That's all.Comment

You're right, just rewatched. He sat on the rope, and next thing he's out on his feet again. I was thinking 2:40 of round 2, him falling back to the ropes and bouncing offComment

Martinez got hit by a series of 3 big shots and he went down 3-4 seconds later. There might have also been 1 or 2 grazing between those hard and punches and the fall. Same thing sort of happened with Bradley. He went down 3-4 seconds later after he got hit by that big shot.
No, but it looked like he was crawling and reaching for the ropes before the ref helped him. While getting up, there was a brief moment that looked like he was about to fall back down, but the ref was holding his arm.
