Lucas isn't quite our 'hero'. That's the first thing. He is a guy who is an excellent fighter, who has got a very raw deal from the business of boxing. The recognition that he gets is almost entirely from hardcore boxing fans, the likes of which frequent a place like this.

Look at all his rivals at 140, Peterson, Khan, Garcia, Rios, all these guys have gotten several title shots and Matthysse never has, despite the fact that a majority of hardcore fans thinks he's better than all of them.

This is the discrepancy that leads people to talk him up. Unlike fighters whose hype outweighs their ability, Matthysse's ability far outweighs the hype. And don't make the mistake of thinking boxing nuts talking about him all the time equals hype, because it doesn't. If the opinions of hardcore boxing fans counted for much then the matchmaking in this sport would be a hell of a lot different.
lol.. you think everyone who posts here is hardcore boxing fan

not even close and the same thing applies to matthysses fanbase, the vast majority of his fans arent hardcore fans at all and know very little about boxing.

he hasnt got a raw deal from the business side of boxing either. both of his losses to judah and alexander were very close, too close to be called robberies. you should never let a fight get that close, if you do it in your opponents backyard on top of that you have nobody to blame but yourself.

his ability is not as good as the hype hes been getting. there was a time when he indeed was one of boxings best kept secrets, but as of late hes become the new trend around mainstream boxing circles. a huge amount of ppl jumped on the bandwagon in a very short period of time and the hype has gotten way out of hands since.

he is a very good fighter, but the idea that the entire 140lb division is shaking in their boots over this guy is absurd. hes a fundamentally sound guy with very good power and a good chin, but hes also very basic and he relies way too much on his right hand.

Zab just wasn't active enough and his jab was largely ineffective to be honest, he was just flicking it out there for the most part while Lucas consistently ****** him to the body.

What hurt Lucas was leaving it too late to go upstairs. Had he done so earlier I think he think he definitely could have stopped Zab late on. Zab's power just didn't bother him at all when they exchanged.
This is exactly how I saw it. What fight was lederman watching????

the same one the judges saw in terms of it being a close fight. someone tell me this who's fixing fights for ZAB JUDAH enlighten me. whats the motivation to give zab a fight against this gem of a fighter.also why is it that this "killer "
which i've seen him described here couldn't just tear judah's head off within 6 rounds and not let it get to the judges ,answer is he's an ok fighter and i can't wait til peterson gets his hands on him so this hype train can stop.

Just because judges do a **** job doesn't mean that there is a "fix" it just means that they may need to be doing something else. I hope he does get the Peterson fight because Lucas is going to beat him down.

What an absurd notion, it's Lucas' fault for getting robbed, because he left the fight get close? I had no idea you needed to dominate a guy the entire fight if you're on another fighters home turf to win. This is news to me. It's like saying its a woman's fault if she gets ****d because she dresses slutty. It's complete backwards thinking. If you did enough to win a fight, you shouldn't get robbed, simple

Matts didn't dominate the whole fight. He lost the 1st 4 or 5 rds.

Some pretty bizarre reasoning being offered by Matthysse's critics all round here. Strange that such an unassuming guy gets some people so upset.

if you are gonna quote me you should at least read what i wrote. i said NOTHING like that.

i said he didnt get robbed not because of where he was but because he simply didnt win the fight by a large enough margin. and yes you do have to win the fight by a clear margin, not dominate but win clearly.

why? because scoring a fight is often a matter of opinion, thats why there are 3 judges and thats why this thread was made in the first place. when it comes to close rounds one judge can score it for fighter A, the second judge to fighter B and the third have it a draw and nobody has to be wrong.

so while you dont have to dominate every single round to win, you cant let there be too many swing rounds and assume you will come out on top. you have to go out there and put rounds in the bag, if you do that and still dont get it, thats a robbery. but matthysse didnt. he let get so close it became a matter of opinion who won.

most "fans" just score it for whoever is coming forward and thats why most ppl have him winning big, but if you take all criterias into account it was a really close fight. i personally scored the fight for judah by a point, it wouldnt be wrong if matthysse won though. there were so many swing rounds that could have gon either way. but it wasnt wrong for judah to get it either.

No he didn't, watch the actual fight, stop going off these myths. It's pretty clear you didn't watch the Lucas "losses". I mean you scored the Devon fight for Devon, when 91% score for Lucas. Then you also scored it for Lucas. Did your scoring criteria? How can you score the fight for both guys?

Lucas won 2 of the first 5 rounds
