The series has been sealed more conclusively than anyone could've expected, in the fight which was supposed to end the debate.

We have that ending. That's how the fight was promoted. The only reason Manny and Arum have been clamouring for a fifth fight is because it wasn't conclusive in their favour.

I can drag up all the quotes from both camps that I could be bothered finding. But no doubt you already heard those.
No doubt man, the bout doesn't need to happen, unless maximizing profits is a must. It's pretty much any promoters mission though.

So it's not a must, but you just heard a lot of very good reasons why it should and probably will happen. For Pac, chance at redemption, for JMM, a record payday, for boxing fans, another classic probably.

Another thing to consider is, the previous 2 fights didn't carrry much suspense going in. Nobody though JMM could stop Pac, much less with 1 punch. It's a whole different ballgame now.

      A few things...

      (1) Pacquiao was winning the fight, the Marquez KO was against the "run of play" (to borrow a soccer phrase). It was an ending certainly, conclusive? not for some.

      (2) There have been plenty of rematches following knockouts, they're not conclusive of themselves, particularly when there have been 3 prior close fights.

      (3) Pacquiao officially leads the "series" 2-1 with one draw. Many believe it's really 2 wins each, so a 5th fight makes sense from that perspective.

      (4) The drug-testing issue. Never have these two fought under drug testing, if one was to believe all the accusations thrown around, this fight could be the first "clean" fight in the eyes of many.

Of course, this is true and I don't like it.

This is a perfect opportunity for my favourite fighter to go out on the biggest win of his career. A brutal KO over a great fighter, a satisfying ending to a great trilogy.

But then the other camp changes their mind and suddenly they're doing all the wheeling and dealing they can to get a rematch despite them having been adamant that this was the last one.

It's very frustrating and while I understand the merits, it doesn't mean I like it.

If it does go ahead, I hope Marquez screws them at the negotiating table first.

            the question is too vague..

            The technical answer is.

Anyone who directly or indirectly gets a profit out of all the activities and the actual fight.

Promoter, Fighters, Trainers, TV Crew, Towel boy. etc....

The 2 fighters will earn millions after cuts and taxes so they would 100% benefit from the fight.

I don't understand how you can aim for a more conclusive ending. Short of Marquez finally getting old enough for Manny to beat him up and stop him. That's what most of you seem to be aiming for.

A knockout is a knockout. It renders the cards irrelevant. Especially considering Manny was only up by one or two rounds.

Although if you want to get cute, Manny suffered a rather serious knockdown in the 6th round. Marquez would be up on the cards if you were scoring it at the time of the stoppage.

This wasn't a cuts stoppage, this was a brutal one punch KO that Marquez had already started hitting Manny with repeatedly.

                (2) There have been plenty of rematches following knockouts, they're not conclusive of themselves, particularly when there have been 3 prior close fights.
They are when they are one punch knockouts.

If Manny had knocked out Marquez, no-one would want a rematch.

You can score any of the first three eitherway. I scored the first and third for Marquez, the second for Manny.

The fourth, you cannot give to Manny.

                That's conclusive.

                (4) The drug-testing issue. Never have these two fought under drug testing, if one was to believe all the accusations thrown around, this fight could be the first "clean" fight in the eyes of many.
This seems like grasping at the straws, rather badly.

Whatever they are on, I'm damn sure Memo and Ariza have the expertise to avoid testing positive.

That's the game right now. Hope it changes in the future, but it's the truth.

I'm not aiming for anything, I like both fighters.

They are when they are one punch knockouts.

A fair point, but what does that matter? the fact that Marquez now has KO power as well as Pacquiao makes a rematch more interesting.

Actually I'm not certain no one would want a rematch if Marquez was winning the fight and got dropped.

I disagree. Stringent testing catches these cheats out*, we've seen it enough times. Get that VADA on.

                  * not saying any of those guys are cheats, talking about drug cheats in boxing in general.

Maybe not you specifically, but there are certainly transparent ones who do.

                    Like Arum

He's always had that power. He's just preferred to play it careful since his shock experience in their first round of fighting.

He threw that caution to the wind, he was hurt badly like he was in the first round of the first fight, and he also landed the punches he needed to to pull out a very concussive win.

Actually I'm not certain no one would want a rematch if Marquez was winning the fight and had dropped Pacquiao.
I guess that does depend on how Marquez looked.

But my guess is that Marquez would've looked like an aged fighter even more than he did in the fourth fight, had he been the one that was stopped. I'm going to be realistic about Marquez, great performance last time out but that looked like a swansong to me. He looked very stiff and slower than usual.

I'm pretty sure they're both juicing, along with every other elite in the sport.

But I think they are the tier that have the money to ensure the best service, i.e. not getting caught. The ones who have been caught out are a few tiers lower, at best

I would love to see testing if I had to see a 5th fight, but I don't think it justifies a return.

Money has lots to do with it. That's why it's sometimes known as prize fighting. Their legacies are both pretty will set but a great performance against a great fighter always helps. At this point I think Pacquiao gains a bit more prestige with a clear win over Marquez than the other way around. Marquez has his clear win over Pacquiao but all of Pacquiao wins are disputed. Marquez will probably make between 10 and 20 million and Pacquiao will probably make between 20 and 30 million. That's a damn good reason to fight.
