    floyd was better considerably
people act like barkley was some sort of world beater, he was basically a decent journeyman before he KO'd hearns with a lucky punch

It may not have been the OP's intention, but creating this thread is a testament to just how highly he rates Floyd.

        Good to know.

Now answer the question he asked.

First off, no one said Barkley was an ATG. But he was a solid middleweight champ and KO'ing hearns isn't some trivial accomplishment you can brush off like that.

Second off, Duran cleaned out house at lightweight by beating numerous solid fighters.

Third off, his first victory against prime Leonard trumps anything on Floyd's resume.

In my opinion, Duran has the clearly better resume BUT whether he was the better fighter might be up for some dispute.

As a big fan of both Duran because of his ferocity and Mayweather because of his finesse. When you look at what both have done and they're accomplishments, it's extremely difficult to claim who is best or had a best career. When this Thread was made it would be much easier to argue for Duran. Saying that, what held Mayweather back, was a fight with Pacquiao. Weither you enjoyed the fight or not, believed Pacquiao won (which is rediculous but not the conversation)... The fact remains Mayweather got the win.

When Mayweather beat Pac, it put him in my eyes as having the better legacy, not saying a greater fighter but the greater Legacy. Unfortunately for Duran, outside of the First Leonard fight; Duran lost damn near every big fight he had outside of the Lightweight division. While Mayweateher never cleaned up a division (could be argued the Lightweight Divison Duran conquered was far from the most talented) but their is a reason for that. In this day of Boxing, it seems a fighter rarely chooses to clean out a Divison but move up in weight to try to claim the mythical P4P title. As it seems Mayweather intention was and much like all the top Boxers; never to clean of a Divison or try to claim history defending the title.

In my opinion, Mayweather surpassed Duran after the win his career needed. Not saying Mayweather is in the league with Robinson, Armstrong, Ali or Pep. My biggest difficulty with Mayweathers Legacy, is a lack of consistency when it came to fighting... He will go undefeated, a feat held in America only by the great Marciano but he lacked the large fights once seen in the past.

Duran was a naturally smaller man than Floyd, who started at 130 and is taller with a longer reach. Duran started below 120, his early fights were around the bantam weight limit.
He was 120 when he was 16 and Floyd Mayweather was 106 when he was 16. Duran vs Barkley was only for the WBC MW championship, not for the lineal title, the WBA champion at the time was some unknown guy called Sumbu Kalambay, who already beat Barkley for the WBA title a couple of years before Barkley fought Duran, a month after Duran beat Barkley, Kalambay lost his title to the body snatcher Mike McCallum, who Duran didn't want any part of.

Floyd beat Dela Hoya for the WBC LMW title, then Cotto for the WBA title, then Canelo for the WBA, WBC and lineal titles, a catchweight of 152 lbs doesn't take credit away from the win, he was outweighed by almost ´15+ lbs plus on fight night anyway, once u sign that contract, there are no excuses! Canelo challenged Mayweather in 2012 to fight at 150 lbs and in the negotiations he proposed a catchweight, so the fight was made at 152. Floyd would've whooped him even at 158 and u know it. That was one of Floyd's easiest fights.

Might be worth having a new poll. The win over Pac was big and moved Mayweather quite up the ATG list in many people's minds.

But Floyd's win is forever tainted by the catch weight.

Floyd should man up and fight GGG at 160, no catch weight, no rehydration clause.

Then, Mayweather would be respected in the same way we boxing fans respect Roberto Duran.

Honestly I now rate floyd ahead of duran.. But it's razor thin.. Duran has the one big win over leonard that trumps anything on Floyd's resume, but floyd has a lot more depth in terms of wins.. Both are towards the bottom of my top 10 atg...
