Pretty close really. Both are top 10 clearly IMO. Give it 20 years and Maywether will clearly win this poll.

Duran giving Hagler his toughest fight (even while losing) is a better accomplishment than anything Floyd did.
Besides. Marcel Cerdan, Pipino Cuevas, Davey Moore, Carlos Palomino, Esteban de Jesus, Ken Buchanan, Guts Ichimatsu, Carlos Palomino >>>>> Juan Manuel Marquez, Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Cotto, Alvarez.
And, of course: (prime) Sugar Ray Leonard > (faded) Manny Pacquiao

Plus Floyd Mayweather fought 30-40% of the rounds in his career with messed up hands, he beat some champions with one hand, he always found a way to win and never said "NO MAS", this is also something u should consider when comparing the 2 fighters.
Roberto Duran never made anywhere near the type of money that Mayweather made, who knows how hard he would've trained if he had this type of money at the age of 38, this is another thing that's very important, the work ethic, this guy is able to compete at the highest level of the sport at the age of 38 with 500 million dollars in the bank, which fighter in the history of the world did anything close to that? They all faded into oblivion once they started making that crazy money, look at Tyson, Dela Hoya and the list goes on and on. CONSISTENCY, u can't compare careers without considering that.Last edited by Ahmed_Ismail; 07-13-2015, 03:57 PM.

Duran lived it, you could see he had passion. Mayweather seems to lack that passion, he's too calculating.
You can just imagine Duran being called out and his response: Where? When?
...whereas you can just imagine Mayweather being called out and his response: How much?
Mind you, Duran got greedy too I suppose! Also, it's easier to make a myth out of the older boxers as some time has passed and information is not so accurate as it is nowadays. Still, Duran tested himself multiple times - has Mayweather ever really done that? There are excuses around every fight, ffs

Surely Floyd would win this poll if it was done today. After all he just won a close decision over a smaller, one armed, shot Pac, 2 years after he was put in a coma by a 40 year old career Featherweight.

Duran is greater, as he dared to be great. Its not about unbeaten records and trying to preserve it.
THe CW with Canelo harmed Floyd real bad. Beating Pac was one helluva win for Floyd, but as has been said many times, Floyd didn't take the fight when he should have done. Plus the fashion that he won wasn't too impressive, never hurting Pac and the clinching. Taking it after JMM dumped Pac on the canvas will never be good for Floyd.
Not fighting GGG at middleweight will harm Floyd. The fans want it, yet Floyd don't. I mean if the world was begging Duran to fight Hagler or GGG, youd better believe Duran would have done anything to please the fans and give them what they want. Just like BH is calling GGG out now. Real fighters and ATGs.
Floyd with his unbeaten record has a serious case for being a candidate for being the best of this generation alongside Pac and BH without really seriously being it.
But he isn't a candidate for challenging the real contenders....whilst Pac is and BH.Last edited by hugh grant; 07-13-2015, 05:37 PM.
