Will We Ever Get Another De La Hoya vs. Trinidad?

I rewatched that fight this morning and it's one of the craziest boxing atmospheres I've ever seen. Trinidad could barely walk to the ring because of how packed the Mandalay Bay was.

You have a unification fight between two undefeated prime fighters, at comfortable weights, representing two of the most loyal fan bases in boxing.

Looking at the young up and coming prospects, I can't think of an event that could ever match this fight in terms of relevance, the build up and the atmosphere.

Will we ever get to witness something like this again?

Was watching that fight last night! Also re watched Tito vs. Vargas.

To answer OP. Floyd vs. Manny would've eclipsed that by a mile.

That's an issue that prevents fights like this today though. Promoters won't put their stars head to head.

De La Hoya vs. Trinidad was co-promoted by Don King and Top Rank.

Agree. Can you imagine how much pull Don King had back in the day, if you can rob the "Golden Boy", in Vegas!!!

I even remember Foreman saying, "uh oh, Don king's talking to the commission, that shouldn't be happening!", in the Tito/Vargas fight.

            Rios- Prime/Undefeated

            Danny Garcia- Prime/undefeated

Also Mex-American vs PR-American. Rios talks **** and dannys dad talks **** the press conferences would be epic. Obviously its TR/GB so it will probably never happen. And to clarify i'm not saying it would be on the same level as tito/oscar but I thought it was a great match up to use as an example.

One of the judges scorecards was disgusting. I think he gave Trinidad something like the first 3 rounds and De La Hoya the 12th.

No, Trinidad and Oscar were MEGA stars. Undefeated, top 3 p4p guys in the world. Crazy fight night.

I still don't get how, and why they would rob Oscar. It still baffles my mind. What was the benefit in that??? Are there any rumors as to why they pulled that off, or was Don King THAT powerful back then?
