I mean 3G just fought a jr mw with 5 losses who moved up in weight.........am I missing something here?

Quillin is talking about fighting Geale next or something and Sturm isn't coming out of Germany...EVER. Beyond that, he has fought Macklin and Chavez jr who are both in the top 10 as well as Barker who is sitting just outside the top 10 now. That leaves Soliman and Pirog (this guy might as well retire, I'm not sure how he is even still ranked).

So who hasn't Martinez been fighting in the top 10 that means anything at all? Maybe Sturm and Quillin....3G just got his face smashed up by Rosado....I'm telling you now, Sergio would beat that guy to a pulp.

There must be some other top ranked guys who aren't "fringe contenders" that I just don't know about because as I see it about 8 out of the 10 top ranked guys at MW appear to fit that description if you ask me.
    No, he shouldn't.

Murray did not win that fight and why he is in the top 10 is a mystery.

This is the epitome of a joke of a fight.

There are a few points you need to take into account:
One Martinez is coming off knee surgery,
Two he's fighting in Argentina for a smaller purse,
Three the WBC has banned unifications (you can find this anywhere),
Four Martin Murray is a top 10 middleweight (whether you like it or not) and has an official DRAW against Sturm in Germany.

Who exactly do you want Martinez to fight anyway?
Golovkin? Why just so Martinez can get stripped of his WBC title which he fought so hard to recover? Who has Golovkin fought? Rosado, Fuchigami, Proksa? If anything if and when this fight happens it has to cook a little bit and Golovkin needs to earn his shot fighting a legit opponent.

Quillin is all booked (Guerrero, Rubio) and I'm not sure his management would let him fight Martinez yet (they already turned down a Martinez fight before).

Geale? Same argument as GGG. Why should Martinez lose his hard earned WBC belt for an IBF belt? This isn't even a money fight for him as Geale is unknown in the U.S. and that fight wouldn't sell in Argentina either. A fight against a Brit on the other-hand does (Argentines hate Brits).

That settles the belt holders, every other contender (with the exception of Martin Murray) Martinez has either already beaten (Chavez Jr., Macklin) has been recently beaten (N'Dam, Sturm) or is extremely inactive, undeserving and unknown (Pirog).

You guys are right, Martinez just fights cans and cabbies....his entire existence is a fabrication of smoke and mirrors. I think he should retire before he gets exposed more than he already has by mediocre competition.

            Not true.

Martinez fought top fighters in 2011 and rightfully won FOTY.

After that, his run has been boarderline atroscious with the likes of Darren Barker and soon to be Martin Murray level fighters.

Ward's just in an awful situation. I can't blame him at all for what's happening to him right now.

Martinez has been like this since he beat Paul Williams. Its not new.

Yeah he just fought Darren Barker and now he's fighting Murray. lol.

By the way, Barker was a last minute replacement after Daniel Geale and Peter Quillin turned down Martinez. Barker is actually a pretty good contender, probably borderline top 10 right now.

This has been his actual run of opponents chronologically.

                1. W (UD12) Kelly Pavlik (THE RING, WBC, WBO) (lineal champion)
                2. W (KO2) Paul Williams (#2 middleweight)
                3. W (TKO8) Sergiy Dzinziruk (JMW WBO titleholder)
                4. W (KO11) Darren Barker (top 20 middleweight)
                5. W (RTD11) Matthew Macklin (#3 middleweight)
                6. W (UD) Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (WBC) (#2 middleweight)
                7. ? (N/A) Martin Murray (#9 middleweight)

                  Based on what exactly?

Having 1 fight above domestic level and took an almighty step up to European level against Spada and in that one fight looking dead average?

On what basis was Barker a Top 20 MW when Martinez fought him? Please, I would love to know.

And Dzinziruk, Barker, Macklin, Chavez, Murray.

That run is underwhelming, to say the least.

You've got to put things in context genius, that's why I added notes next to each opponent.

Here's my top middleweights list and tell me Barker isn't in the top 20.

                    1. • Sergio Martinez* (RING, WBC middleweight champion)
                    2. • Daniel Geale* (IBF middleweight champion)
                    3. • Julio Cesar Chavez Jr –contender
                    4. • Gennedy Golovkin* (WBA middleweight champion)
                    5. • Peter Quillin* (WBO middleweight champion)
                    6. • Dmitry Pirog* –contender
                    7. • Felix Sturm – contender
                    8. • Mathew Macklin – contender
                    9. • Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam – contender
                    10. • Martin Murray – contender
                    11. • Darren Barker – contender
                    12. • Grzegorz Proksa – contender
                    13. • Andy Lee – contender
                    14. • Marco Antonio Rubio – contender
                    15. • Sebastian Zbik – contender
                    16. • Max Bursak
                    17. • Osumanu Adama
                    18. • Avtandil Khurtsidze
                    19. • Sam Soliman
                    20. • Brian Vera

Because most top middleweights don't fight each other, I place a lot of value into fighters who rack up wins against (then) top 20 opponents.

u say fringe contenders, I say the best available opponents...murray is no pushover and neither were macklin and barker. martinez is at the end of his career and has said himself he has 2 or 3 fights left in him before he retires...after the tiresome career he's had I can't front him for cashing out and it's not like he's been scraping up nobodies. he has big wins over pavlik, williams and chavez jr

ward is merely responding to kessler and froch...they started bashing him

who would u like to see him fight at 175? the only fight out there would be pascal if he beats dawson. bhop said he'd never ward and cloud has a mando to deal with if he beats bhop

I can't fault these guys for the position they're in
