He wasn't properly up for such a stringent test mentally, and you could see him visibly wilt around round 4 and 5 after getting tagged a few times. I think he was very tired and could only fight in spurts.
Agree to all. I'll only add that I really think the nervous tension of the moment helped sap Gamboa's energy. Yuri appeared visibly tense to me.

I just think part of it was intentional because of how Gamboa would literally do nothing. Even when a fighter is tired they usually throw punches. After so long, Gamboa would definitely need a breather when Farenas stuck around, but that shouldn't have stopped him from fighting, he just stopped sometimes.

Good win by Gamboa, but he was just way too overconfident, the guy thought it was going to be an easy fight.

Gamboa showed massive skills, but he needs to calm down and go back to basics, keep his hands up and systematically destroy his opponent.

He also needs to keep his freaking chin down!

I think he looked ok, to be honest I was expecting Yuri to "Struggle" a bit due to a number of reasons (Lay off, pressure) but I thought he did well... Hopefully he stays active and then gets a big name soon, someone that would make Yuri train harder and be more "Serious"

Good. I'm trying to make sure I'm not looking at Gamboa's performance through rose-colored glasses. I thought he looked just fine, considering the layoff.

Nah he was just like I expected him to be, The only fighter that can pull off a 14/15 months lay off and come back looking good would probably be Mayweather , and it would be unfair to expect Yuri to look the same... I think the rounds actually benefit him yesterday more, Had he Won in the first round by KO yesterday he wouldn't have learn anything, in fact a first round KO win would have probably done more damage to Yuri in the longer term.

This pretty much sums up everything I feel about Gamboa after watching the fight!!

Given those circumstances, he performed exceptionally well. It's obvious that Farenas is no bum, and tonight has proven as much. But I know how it goes, as soon as Gamboa knock off a few champions and top contenders, you guys will be back on the Gamboa bandwagon.
People here don't realize he knocked the guy down twice won by a huge margin on all three score cards and made his opponent look silly at times when he would choose too!! I mean what the hell more do they want?! Unless i had the wrong channel i saw a entertaining fight and Gamboa displayed flashes of his skills!!It's obvious his opponent wasn't a tailor made bum like other fighters get when they just want a victory

I saw the same Gamboa that I've always seen. Very fast , elusive , ****y , confident and over confident , careless. Nothing new. He can be dominating when he wants , he can also act like a clown and get rocked when he gets careless and confident. There was some rust but nothing a veteran of the sport can't handle. It was a non issue.

Only thing and I have always said this about Gamboa is that he fights without a strategy , I didn't hear no specific instructions from his corner , it was just go out there and outclass him. And that's why the fight got interesting. Gamboa does have a weak chin , got rocked like 4 times came back each time but is very vulnerable and if he keeps acting like a clown he will get ktfo
