Not impressed at all with Gamboa tonight. Farenas gave a gutsy performance but how much of that is contributed to Gamboa's 14 month layoff?

My advice to Gamboa: leave daddy and get a better trainer.

From the ****** comments I've read on this thread thus far, I can only conclude that alot of you don't know **** about boxiing. Gamboa has just come back from a 15 month lay-off. Given those circumstances, he performed exceptionally well. It's obvious that Farenas is no bum, and tonight has proven as much. But I know how it goes, as soon as Gamboa knock off a few champions and top contenders, you guys will be back on the Gamboa bandwagon.

What the heck was 50 cent thinking???

50 Cent, the newfound promoter, was saying all week long that the ring entrance for Gamboa would be the best ever seen in boxing. Well, I would say it was quite different as it was a Promoter's entrance, not a Fighter's entrance. 50 Cent, being nice, you looked ******. Like an utter idiot. Its about the fighter, not the promoter. Its about the promoter putting together good cards, making money for everyone, and building up yourself to be a powerhouse in the sport. All week we watched you act like a fighter. You were having the press take pictures of you and Gamboa having stare downs. Come on, that is even more ******. Can you imagine Bob Arum and Manny Pacquaio having a stare down and Bob Arum signing New York, New York, coming in the ring via a parachute? Know your place. Know your role. Yeah, you can be different, shake things up a bit in boxing but please dont stare down your fighters and please do not have ring entrances for yourself while your fighter struggles to victory. Hopefully you learned. 2Legit

This is true. Farenas drew with Uchiyama if I'm not mistaken and Gamboa could have toyed with him all night if he wanted.

That's the thing with G, if he was content to be the Mayweather type with defence, pot-shotting and calm walk-downs he would appear untouchable. It's his "cyclone" mode that always gets him into trouble.

Gamboa definitely had some rust, I'm hoping to attributed to his uneven performance. It always seems like if he would just open up, the guy can't handle the offense coming at him. Tonight he was getting caught a lot with his hands at his waist. I'm hoping it's rust, but I'm a bit nervous after what I saw.

He tends to leave himself wide open a lot. It wasn't just tonight.

Gamboa looked terrible, though you can say ring rust. The biggest issue is his promoter 50 cent. Saying Gamboa wants May or Broner then to put on this performance is just laughable. Gamboa looked rather lazy and really let off a lot in the ring and it was just mind boggling to everyone of us watching. We were all pro gamboa going in but mid way through farenas kind of swayed a lot of us into rooting for him.

The main problem with your lay-off argument is how many other boxers have come back from longer lay-offs and looked amazing? If Gamboa is to be mentioned with the big guys atm, he has to show up better than what he did.
