  • Mayweather Decline vs Cotto Decline

Is the Trout win more a testament of Mayweather's decline or Cotto's decline?

Not taking anything away from Trout, because Trout is pretty good....

I think that if Mayweather would have fought Cotto at 140 years ago, he would have outboxed him more thoroughly....

Mayweather "said" that his fight with Cotto was his toughest, but do you think that is due to him not being in his prime?

Would a younger Cotto have won if he met Trout in his Prime? (Taking into account the P4P thing)

I don't like how Cotto acted like a lil girl who got fluids on her makeup and ran off as well....

    This was a good fight....regardless

Ginger should fight Trout....i'm taking Trout....

Personally, I don't think it has all that much to do with either. Trout is much bigger than both Mayweather and Cotto. Cotto fighting May was Cotto at least fighting a slick boxer much closer to his own size.

In this fight, Trout's height and length made it absolutely futile for Cotto to box with him. When he got close, Trout also did an excellent job smothering Cotto's only real shot at doing damage.

I think May-Cotto was closer basically because they were closer in size and the style matchup wasn't exactly the same either, of course.

IMO, Trout isn't a good matchup for Mayweather either. He's a tall, long southpaw with underrated skills and ring IQ and 154 suits him. Mayweather - like Cotto - is damned small in comparison, and not in his prime anymore.

*For the record, Mayweather is still "better" than Trout. It's just not a good idea to fight someone so skilled at a weight that doesn't suit you.

Mayweather is still lightyears ahead of the competition and Cotto is still a good fighter as well....FYI

Styles make fights and Mayweather is a lot more stationary than Trout at this stage in his career.

I don't think it reduces the quality of Floyd's performance at all.

Cotto could still be a beast if he's able to make 147. 154 just isn't his weight.

            This here.

I can't pretend to know all the reasons for him thinking 154 is where he belongs, but this fight should send a pretty clear message that it isn't, especially when the opponent is so much more clearly suited for the weight.

Trout is big. Cotto is not a 54lber

NOPE...I think Mayweather allowed the fight to be exciting by staying against the Ropes...Trout did an absolutely masterful job of pushing Cotto Around and turning him and staying off the Ropes and also used the Clinch Properly but Clinch but then Releasing and getting both arms inside and surprisingly out-worked Cotto inside which NOBODY SAW COMING

Nothing against Cotto but I think the last 2 Rounds of Mayweather vs Cotto was Mayweather showing Cotto "THIS IS HOW THE FIGHT COULD HAVE GONE IF I WANTED IT TO!" meaning that Mayweather could have easily stayed outside and just picked Cotto apart if he wanted to do so

Floyd and Cotto arent natural 154 pounders. And both are past it.

Floyd would give Trout a tougher fight but the final result would be similar to the Cotto fight. What impressed me the most about Trout tonight is that he looked like he could have gone 15 rounds.
