He's a big dude on the technical side, the fact that he has KO power but fights in a more traditional defensive minded style via the counterpunch is pretty unique for a guy with his arm length..the kid in many ways is a freak of nature for his division. Put him in there with a better trainer and he's got the tools for a long prosperous career but the key in that is new trainer. He's a bit sloppy with planting his feet properly on the ducks and weaves and that could get him in trouble fast.

      • I picked Cotto to win, but Trout looked great tonight. No doubt about that. He proved me wrong and got the better of Cotto for the majority of the fight. Good win. Looking forward to seeing him in action again.

Real option left for Canelo is Mayweather or Martinez since he's looking for a payday. Trout for his good showing won't wake up tomorrow morning all of the sudden a PPV headliner, he'll get a few PPV undercard fights if he's successful there he'll move onto his own events.
Martinez is scheduled to fight someone else in April, in Argentina.

I'm aware of that..i'm just stating out of the big names he can pull into a fight those are the two likeliest big paydays for him right now..Martinez in the fall or Mayweather in May..I could even see Martinez being up for fighting him sooner than the fall even september..that would be enough time to heal and start training.

            • How Can Canelo be looking for a big payday when he IS the big payday??? where do people get this ****** shiat? trout, lara, vanes, and even martinez is looking for a big payday, and fact is they are much older than Canelo is, sure Canelo is being handled but since he is the main attraction at that weight and his age can you blame his promotors??? besides he may not beat all those guys but he just may, this whole idea that he needs to be protected isnt completley true none of those dudes fight well enough to make Canelo the underdog not even Martinez, now Im not here to say Canelo is the second coming or Robinson he isnt , but those ther dudes just have shown far more weakness and liabilities...in the next year they will let Canelo loose and we'll see the truth whatever it may be.

He's the big payday? what's the most Canelo has made for a fight?..cause I tell you one thing he's not fought anyone worthy of paying him over $10 million to watch him fight..in fact most of his fights are paid cable fights..those aren't at more than 2.5 million in purse. When the facts are laid out it isn't so ****** my friend..just like every other boxer before him Canelo needs a big name across from him with a ppv history who ppl feel can give him a good challenge to become a ppv superstar..

That's what I noticed about Trout and why I wasn't too sold on him but obviously he had enough skill and in the tank to beat Cotto. I should have went with my first prediction which was that Trout would be too big for Cotto but after watching Trout fights he seemed rather sloppy and was easy to get into his chest. Cotto just wasn't the man to exploit it. Canelo/Trout is the best for the JMW division.

If Sam Watson is serious about Trout, and he's been uniquely vocal about his support of trout because of his character and the change in role model for black kids who love the sport well he needs to talk to trout about changing up his team. I'll say this, if someone teaches Trout how to weave, half step and strike forward with an overhand he'd be absolutely lethal. That punch for him works because of his height and his reach..he also needs to learn to utilize a proper uppercut...that jab uppercut was pissing me off. I think Trout with better training would've TKO'd Cotto tonight easily he was too busy lunging instead of playing into his own strengths.
