I have to go with Guerrero on this. Garcia beat an old man and Khan who got KOed by Prescott.
Let me ask you this, what would happen if Garcia jumped up two weight classes to 154....would he beat anyone in the top ten. I don't think so.Comment

Danny Garcia has a decent case, but I would go Donaire easy. I like Dom's mention of Viloria too.Comment

I'm surprised people don't consider him in the running.
He's had an impressive year, to say the least.Comment

Out of this list I would say Donaire just because he has stayed active and taken the most risk with top level fighters. Guerrero is definitely in the discussion I'd have him and Froch about even as far as level of competition but Guerrero probably gets the tie breaker for jumping up in weight. Abner Mares is there and took care of business impressively against 2 top fighters he was suppose to beat so he deserves mention no doubt. Danny Garcia for me had a controversial first fight against a faded morales but made up for it with a KO in the rematch. He also had a great win against khan but 2 fights with faded morales just don't get you FOTY IMO.he's def in the running imo. here's who i think is capable of snagging the award:
robert guerrero [aydin and berto]
nonito donaire [vazquez jr., mathebula, nishioka, and arce(12/15)]
danny garcia [khan and morales(2x)]
abner mares [morel and moreno]
carl froch [bute and mack]
brian viloria [romero and marquez]
donaire is the only one left with a fight in 2012. he has the chance to score a KO of the year with arce, and seal the deal for FOTY. i think donaire will get it.Comment

14 month layoff or not he was a natural ww,he should have beaten guerrero easily, since this was guerrero's 2 fight at that weight.instead he got his ass handed to him,as strong as berto is with all those upper cuts he could not hurt guerrero or put him down like he did to ortiz,my props go to guerrero for putting up a great fight and berto should learn to be humble in defeat.Agreed.
It isn't just the victories or even the opponents, but the method of victory is critical too.
To start with, Aydin is not exactly a big name, despite their claims to the contrary. He's not beaten anybody of note, and he didn't exactly acquit himself well against Guerrero, hiding behind his guard the majority of the fight.
Berto was coming off a 14 month layoff. Then Guerrero basically wins this fight with illegal tactics, the help of the ref who had no interest in stamping out said tactics, and home town judges just to shore it up. Guerrero looked determined and strong, but little else, as he just put his head down and mauled Berto with it and worked hard without really doing much rounds 4-11. He ate too many uppercuts, and really it was only his conditioning that saw him through.Comment
