He's a counter-puncher with good foot-work, therefore he'll most likely have a low output. He avoided and slipped many punches, but he wasn't making Vanes pay enough. He also didn't work the right hook like I thought he would. He was a tad weary of Vanes's power and fought accordingly. He pot-shotted and retreated to frustrate Vanes and was trying to walk him onto his shots. His strategy was starting to work as Vanes started to fatigue.

I think Lara showed him too much respect and started too slow. The thing with these Cubans is, they fight their whole career with headgear so their punch resistance isn't too good. But once Lara started taking Vanes punches a little better and saw himself get cut (like DannYankee09 pointed out), he stepped it up.

You mentioned Lara's lead right hook earlier. I was kinda disappointed he didn't use it either. I believe Ouma was landing it at will plus the straight left vs Vanes so I was expecting Lara to do it too. Im also not sure why he stopped throwing the left to the body, it would've done wonders.

Lara won but didnt look impresive. He was steping up in the late rounds , but the accident happen. He clearly was going up and martirosan was slowing.

Either Vanes did a lot better than I thought he would or Lara didn't do as good..I've seen Lara do way better but at the same time I've seen Vanes do worse..Lara wasn't really throwing much & when he was, he was just going with his jab & straight left(which he did score especially towards the end of the fight) but NO right hook following(żDoes he know such punch exist & that is effective?)& Vanes scored some nice hard straight rights which I think Lara felt & maybe that's why he was being very cautious(maybe too cautious)..They should just fight again..

He does know about the right hook believe it or not. I think Mr Shields needs to work on his combinations more. Cause all Shields was asking in between rounds was the straight left. Sure it was working or starting to work but you need to throw combinations too.

if people think canelo is overrated,then lara is too,i've never thought much of him except that he's decent,not this awesome fighter some people say he is,i really believe canelo would beat him i just dont see anything that special in him,he doesn't know how to fight on the inside he just holds and his stamina isn't that great and yeah i can tell he felt some of vanes's punches and canelo punches harder,throws better combinations and is faster,i agree that canelo hasn't faced anybody but i'll also say this guy isn't what people think he is
