Floyd's next opponent...

I'm not sure why Mayweather fans care, he's been called out to make his biggest payday and granted all the concessions he wanted!! All of this done LIVE on ESPN by Pacman and Floyd has nothing to say? He got network exposure that has had NO interest in him about Pacmans comments and challenge and doesn't even have a release? The excuse about Arum is old and tired so thats not relevant anymore!
As I've said before his fans have made such a big deal about his "record" being "clean" of defeats his interest in taking on his highest ranking opponent has disappeared! To duck Pacman as he has for years now is what he'll be remember for instead of being remembered as a high quality boxer who fought the best when they were AT their best!! He's a smart business man in & out of the ring but when you duck your number one competitor it shows your heart is not in the game!!!
To me its a pick em fight and would be a great match!! Shame on him! Ray

To even bring up Marquez, who was in uncharted territory at 147, is mind-boggling to say the least. Speaking of weight, Manny went down to 143 for Marquez, while Floyd agreed to come in at 144 against Marquez but then changed his mind and came in at his comfortable weight while Marquez was 2 fights away from jumping up 3 divisions .... and you bring up that I don't know anything about weight?
You talk about scams, well Marquez vs Floyd was a scam. Only some die-hard Floyd fans still defend it with Floyd's line of "Marquez was #2 P4P". Even Floyd said AFTER the fight that it was just a tune-up fight just to calm down the critics .... but you after all these years still consider it a big win for Floyd .... lol!
Marquez coming off a fresh win, calls out Floyd because "He's the best" - JMM
Floyd, after a near TWO (2) year lay-off agrees to fight Marquez who has been active as a live opponent fresh off a hard fought and spectacular KO of a younger, promising prospect in WBA and WBO lightweight champion Juan Baby Bull Diaz.
They both agree to fight at Welterweight with a catchweight of 144lbs, but which Floyd surpassed by 2 lbs.
Was the weight disparity as dangerous as Gatti vs Gamache?
No.
At that point, Marquez had the option of postponing the fight until Floyd made the agreed upon weight.
Did Marquez exercise that option?
No.
He chose to accept the $600,000. penalty and he everyone in his camp were happy and chose to go forward with the fight.
Again, had they been concerned for the safety of Marquez they would've called off the fight. Nobody protested or called for anyone's head.
Floyd makes Marquez look like a mere amateur. Yet Manny goes on to challenge Marquez AT 144lbs. and they go life and death.
How did 2 Pounds make a veteran champion fighter look like an amateur?

I think Floyd's next fight will either be against Pacquiao, or someone we do not foresee at the moment. Kind of how no one thought about Mayweather-Ortiz until Ortiz beat Berto.

Out of Cottos mouth " I will never sacrifice my body like that again for another boxer "
And the proof , Manny REFUSES to fight Cotto without draining him and even now Bob Arum is shown up lying to try and make Cotto look like he walked away on the money , when the fight never happened because of WEIGHT that Manny wants , now WHY does Manny need weight constraints on Cotto , cant he beat him without draining him first , Floyd can go up and fight him at his weight but Manny cant , its pathetic the way Manny is such a WW fake its become a joke .
First read Cotto's own statements below from his interviews. It kind of makes you think that Cotto just didn't want Manny .... not yet at least.
Secondly, you guys are the ones who keep on saying, what's 2lbs for Floyd but not for Cotto. See the problem?
Thirdly, AGAIN, Floyd had the advantage of not required to come down to 144lbs PLUS Marquez having to come up from 135 for the first time ever in his career ..... to boot, a Marquez that just moved up to 135!!!
Why you don't get it is inexplicable!
Cotto was interviewed just before and after the Manny fight.
Cotto's words just prior to the fight:
- Look people, you need to realize that I just came in at 146lbs against Clottey and made it easily. So 145 will not be a problem for me.
- I'm too big for Manny.
- After weighin at 145 - With a direct question about how he feels about coming in at 145. "I feel too strong and too big for Manny."
Cotto's words just after the fight:
- Cotto said, the difference was Manny's speed and the angles that those punches came at ..... due to this, Cotto said he couldn't see where the punches were coming from.
Cotto wanted to fight Margarito at 150-151 then settled for 153. Manny wanted to fight Cotto at the same weight that Cotto wanted Margarito.
See the problem? Cotto, who I like, may be making excuses now. Losing to Floyd was not bad because he was expected to lose and was not dominated like he was against Manny. Losing to Manny badly again, even at 150, can be a major setback.Last edited by ADP02; 10-07-2012, 11:38 AM.

ADP02 responds: But Marquez was a 130lb fighter who just came up to 135. Yet you consider this a fair fight because Marquez called out Floyd? Many opponents who were and are willing to fight Floyd at his division. Martinez, P.Williams, Margarito and Manny called out Floyd to fight Floyd. You consider any one of those options that I stated a worse opponent than Marquez? So the "calling out" is just an excuse.
I know Floyd wouldn't call it out but .... so if Andre Ward calls out Floyd, its a good fight? Floyd goes up 2 divisions from his current division (similar to Marquez) while Ward agrees to come down to 165 but then comes in at 167lbs. Its just 2lbs ... Floyd is #1 P4P .... Fair, right? lol!!!
MindBat said:Was the weight disparity as dangerous as Gatti vs Gamache?
ADP02 responds:
1) Floyd doesn't go for the KO unless its handed to him.
2) Marquez is a decent defensive fighter.
3) So is this how we are going to judge weight now? Is it dangerous?
4) Floyd, unlike many fighters, trains all year round and stays in relatively good shape so he doesn't balloon as much as some of the other fighters.
5) Adrien Broner's last fight: Broner came in over weight. Escobedo was convinced to take the extra money just like Marquez as that is easier for everyone, except the eventual loser, to have the fight go on. Broner made it look easy but was heavily criticized for his weight.
MindBat said:Floyd makes Marquez look like a mere amateur. Yet Manny goes on to challenge Marquez AT 144lbs. and they go life and death.
ADP02 responds:
Styles makes fight:
- Manny vs Marquez were not life and death fights. They were close competitive fights. I never felt Manny was getting KOed.
- Floyd and Marquez have similar styles compared to Manny. So a bigger Floyd should beat the smaller Marquez.
- Marquez admitted that Floyd fights defensive and cautiously. So Floyd's long arms and defense were too hard to penatrate for the smaller defensive minded Marquez.
- Marquez had to get out of his normal self and go on the offense with the bigger defensive Floyd.
- Triangle theories don't work. Manny also took care of Hatton, Cotto and Oscar, easier than Floyd.Last edited by ADP02; 10-07-2012, 11:54 AM.
