Ward is a supermiddleweight. That's two weight classes over Martinez. And, Ward is a real supermiddleweight who'll likely be going up to 175 in a few years.
Moreover, Floyd has no problem going up to 154 to fight people he knows he can beat. Why does he have an issue stepping up to fight Martinez at that weight? Martinez has never gone up to 168 to fight anybody even though there were many more high profile fights to be made for him at that weight class. That speaks volumes.
A buddy of mine says that you should bet on Mayweather when he makes a fight because Floyd would never sign a deal if he thought he had any chance of losing it. I think that's right. He wins his fights in matchmaking. Don't get me wrong, he's a great fighter. But there is a reason Floyd hasn't fought the most dangerous guys at 147 and 154--he is risk averse.
