Mayweather was doing fine before that too. He was doing 300-400k with Gatti, Baldomir, and Judah. Mayweather was a star already, looking for fights against Mosley and De La Hoya but every time they had an excuse. DLH finally gave him that fight and it sold well because they were both stars, DLH being considerably bigger of course, I won't deny that. But a PPV takes two. Especially to do 2 and a half million PPVs. Mosley then wanted Floyd finally[of course], but for years Mayweather denied him because he didn't need him anymore.

You said De La Hoya should have never given him a chance. The numbers that fight generated showed that Floyd was not an ordinary B-side fighter of an Oscar PPV. He was the missing formula for a DLH PPV to that good.

There are fighters who fought De La Hoya on PPV and never went on to sell a million+ PPV's in any fight, let alone in as many fights as Floyd has. Hopkins, Trinidad, Vargas, none of these fighters went on to become 1Mill plus PPV sellers. These guys were in a more popular era of boxing. And if you come up with the black box, I counter that with illegal streams.

It is him, his money, and a whole lot of BS - screw the fans. Manny the one trying to get the fight done. Clear as day. It may be damn smart on Floyd's part(assuming he ends up getting more than 55, instead of nada), but it also makes him look kind of sad.

Floyd had the chance to take boxing to new heights by making exciting matchups in a very hot division. Instead, he chose the safest route possible and left many people disappointed by taking fights with lower division guys and never weres.

Squandered a huge opportunity to take the sport to new heights and not just his bank account.

This fight has lost so much hype, pacman has looked awful last 2 fights, he should have lost to JMM. Ganted he should have got the UD against timmy, but still he didnt look great.
