Buddy McGirt had a string like that a while back.

I personally think Roach is wrong for most fighters. He focuses on speed and quick combinations, which come at the expense of power. If you watch his fighters, they stop sitting down on their punches.

He did it to Khan, to Martyrosian, to Linares... list goes on and on.

He tries to build these offensively minded fighters who throw lots of punches quickly with snap, but no power.

His style has worked with Pacquiao who has naturally heavy hands, but other than that, he has failed miserably with just about everyone that he has worked with.

Also a tall guy like Chavez should have used his jab, he hardly threw it, he could have sat back and head hunted Sergio.

Another example of Roach not helping his boxers use their god given advantages, he did the same with Khan turned this tall boxer into a second rate Pac wannabe.

Never cared for freddie roach and his whole hit and run style of boxing but you cannot CANNOT blame the 3 losses on roach.

1.Manny got robbed as far as Im concerned!

2.Khan LOVES to blame his flaws on other people and refuses to open up to self-honesty, Its always ariza, oliver harrison or jorge rubios and now freddys fault

3.Chavez jr, doesnt show up to practice, why should freddy be responsible for the blame?

That being said, there are tons and tons of better trainer with a lesser name, what freddy offers is a reputation that allows other big name fighters to meet and share there boxing styles and expriences under one ring.

If you stop reading the comments and start observing, you can see that freddy isnt a very good teacher when it comes to teaching defense or counter punching and his knoweledge when it comes to infighting seems lacking as well.

Chavez doesn't really like jabbing... just go watch all his past fights. plus sergio was countering the jab

Khan's chin is garbage end of story... don't matter who Khan goes to, you can't fix that chin

there isn't a trainer in the world that would have made chavez beat martinez.

I also remember chavez looking like a complete bum before hooking up with roach.

I agree khan was never a good fit since he has a glass chin.

The goal of any trainer is to make a fighter the best he can be. Perhaps we have seen the best of Chavez Jr. and Khan.

Roach's philosophy is to work with what he's got... on the opposite spectrum you got Manny Steward who tries to mold everyone to fight like Hearns... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Roach said they underestimated Sergios speed, wtf, did they watch any of his fights?
what could Roach have done differently if they did know Sergio was a lot faster than they thought? regardless chavez jr was getting outclassed today

Chavez didnt have a clue what to do, he was lost in there,
Chavez Jr lost the moment he signed the contract... his work ethic is horrible

Chavez - underdog but nearly scored a KO
                    Pacquiao - won his fight
Khan - favorite but wouldn't listen to Roach

When Roach tried to give JR advice jr said "ya ya ya" which is like enough enough, basically jr didn't ever respect him. If Roach has any balls he'll walk away. If he stays, he's a punk. Don't think he even got the chance to make a gameplan for this one.
