No he doesn't deserve more credit he took on the number ranked guy at 175 at 168, he should have took Dawson on for his 175 title, fighting a guy ranked number 1 at 175 but in your own lower division is not the same.

If Dawson was ranked number 1 on the p4p list it would be different.

I still think Ward beats Dawson at 175, but this is not a good look should have fought for Dawsons belt so people can't take anything away from his win and fight a healthy dawson.

Where Dawson is ranked on some matter-of-opinion unofficial list that a magazine puts together doesn't affect things at all.

Anyway, Ward isn't a LHW, he's not like Chavez coming in 20lbs on his division. Someone shouldn't have to move up in weight if they're fine where they are.

Which just leaves facing Dawson at 168, which is what Dawson publicly called for. I guess maybe Ward should've refused?

"I'm not going to fight Dawson because even though he's willing to move down, I'm so concerned he may be drained from doing so that I'm unwilling to risk his health by facing him."

Had he done that he would've been called a coward and insulted for years to come.
